Auctioneers tie The "Pearce Auctioneers' started their 5 game playoff series with Cobourg on Friday Feb. 3 with the first game being played in Port Perry resulting in a 2-2 tie. Port took a 2 goal lead in the first period on a goal scored by Joey Vanderleeuw assisted by Adam Jones and then with Seth Gray scoring assisted by Justin Halligan and Daryl McEnaney. Cobourg scored 2 goals in the second perod to tie the game up and then the third period was scoreless. The 2 teams go at it again on Tues. Feb. 4 in Cobourg at 7 p.m. On dat. Feb. 4, the Auctioneers played in a tournament at Sunderland with their first game against a team from Lindsay. The Auctioneers won this game 13-0 with goals going to the following: Rob Murphy 2, Mike Heasman 2, Justin Halligan 2, Dillan Weber 2, Danny Robinson 1, Derek Leem- ing 1, Adam Jones 2 and Joey Vanderleeuw 1. Assists went to: Seth Gray 2, Justin Kowalczyk 2, Derek Leeming 2, Mike Morden 1 and Daryl McEnaney 1. The second game of the day was a little more competitive with the "Auctioneers" playing Cann- ington and losing 2-1 after the se- cond period of overtime. This game saw no scoring in the first period and saw Cannington take a 1 goal lead by the end of the se- cond period. In the third period Kent Johnston scored to put Port on the scoreboard assisted by Rob Murphy. With a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation time, the teams started into overtime, and had to remove 1 player each after every minute of play. The first minute saw no goals and then with 4 skaters aside plus a goaltender Cannington scored with 13 seconds left thus eliminating Port Perry from the tournament. A very exciting game for both the players and parents. The '"'Auc- tioneers" next tournament is in Uxbridge on Sat. Feb. 18, but in the meantime they will be giving it their best try to crush the Cobourg squad from advancing the next playoff round. Their next home game is 7 p.m. Fri. Feb. 10 which will be the third game of this Port Perry - Cobourg series. Bantams lose The Port Perry Goreski Insula- tion Bantam squad has had a cou- ple of weeks of good hockey which finished off their first round of playoffs. The round-robin, 1st round of the All-Ontario playoffs, which consisted of Port Perry, Cobourg and Stouffville was capped off by: Cobourg coming first; Port Pe second and Stouffville third whic resulted in their elimination of further playoff action. Port Perry finished off the round-robin with a 4-0 win over Stouffville and a 5-3 loss to Cobourg. The win over Stouffville was almost a costly one because the game was "chippy" and the penalties grew to a large number. The Cobourg loss again frustrated Port Perry as they were leading 2-1 going into the third and then lost the game due to some bad penalties. "Port Perry, however, grew more comfortable playing in the Cobourg arena. This arena is cramped and difficult to play in for Port Perry. Port lost the game due to disorganized play in their own end and coach Todd Wilbur has prepared his team to the best of his ability for their upcoming best 3 out of 5 series versus Cobourg. The rest of the work has to be done by the Port players themselves to overthrow the defending All-Ontario Champions of 1988. : The series begins this Tuesday, February 7 in Cobourg at 8:00 p.m. and then back home at Scugog Arena on Wed., Feb. 8 with a 7:45 start. This series is going to be an ex- citing one with a rivalry present as both teams clash to see which team moves on. It.is not one to miss so come out and help Port Perry's chances in a tough series. a J aS H----c a --------i a" pT --
