On Saturday the Stone Realty Pee wees hosted their tournament and successfully defended the championship that they won last year. Ports first game of the day was against the Oshawa Black Hawks which they won 7-1. The boys started slowly in the first period and didn't accomplish much ex- cept picking up a lot of penalties. The second period was a dif- ferent story though, as the boys decided to settle down and play hockey. Steve Desautels was the big shooter in this game scoring 4 goals and picking up 2 assists. Steve's linemates, Todd Smart and Chad Kearn's each scored once while Todd Added 4 assists and Chad helped out with 3 assists. Chad Garvock scored Ports other goal. Jeremy Norton pitched in with 2 assists with Clay Scott and Aron Royle each adding one. Ports second game of the day was against Bradford and once again the boys came out of this winning 7-1. Unlike the first game where the boys did nothing in the first period, this time they scored 4 goals and then coasted the rest of the way for the victory. Chad Gar- vock led the way in this game with 3 goals. Steve Desautels con- tinued his hot scoring with 2 more goals, while Brent Harper and Mike Sluggett each added 1 goal. Mike also added 2 assists while Brent hia r, Scott Wylie, Todd Smart, Clay Scott and Scott Heasman ali pitched in with one assist. The Bbys strong sense of defen- a a TT LET R sive play also showed in this game as they allowed Bradford only 3 shots on net. The win against Bradford mov- ed Port into the finals against Listowel. This game was a physical tight checking contest and easily the most exciting game of the tournament. Although the Stone gang controlled much of the play throughout the game, it was Listowel who opened the scoring early in the second period. The score remained 1-0, until Todd Smart finally scored on a breakaway in the first minute of the third period. Steve Desautel and Chad Kearns picked up the assists. The game started to see- saw back and forth as both teams had good chances to score the go ahead goal but were unable to capitalize. Finally with 4 minutes left, Scott Wylie picked up a loose puck in front of the net and buried a shot just under the crossbar for the tournament winning goal. In- spired by this goal the boys dug down and formed a defensive shell to hold off the Listowel team. Special mentions should go to Listowel goaltender, Ryan Sanders who was selected M.V.P. for this game. If not for him the score could have been much higher as Port controlled much of the play and had many super scoring chances but couldn't buy a goal. The Stone gang plans to keep busy between now and the end of March when they travel to Oshawa to compete in Heinual L.N.H.L. tournament.
