- Cartwright Skip-a-thon Ropes raise nearly $3,000 Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly The Cartwright High School held its annual Skip-a-thon Friday afternoon with the community's - support and much effort by the students and staff an amount of almost three thousand dollars was raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Congratula- tions for your caring efforts. The community's thoughts are with Jean Mountjoy who is at home seriously ill. We are also thinking of Bruce and the family at this difficult time. _ Bell Canada is doing a survey regarding the wishes of customers in this area. Everyone received blue cards which are to be returned this week to indicate your. wishes concerning calls to Oshawa. Do remember to send your card back so that a true survey can be made. Plans are being finalized for the fundraising dance towards the improvements at the Recreation Centre. This dance will be held on Friday night, March 10. Get your tickets before Friday if possible to assist with the planning. The com- munity is urged to support this event. In the Floor Hockey the Yellow team defeated the Red Teams 8-7. Scoring for the Yellows were Brad Morton 4, Deryk Campbell and Dillon Weber. Scorers for the Reds were Johnathon McCourt, Jason Logan, Doug Lynde, Janelle Buller, Brennan Malcolm. In The Seniors in a high scoring game the Bruins defeated the Canadians 12-11. Mike Hepburn scored 8 goals with Jamie Wade 2, Brad Vokins and Andrew Avis. For the Bruins while Brent Don- nelly scored 8 and John Ford 3 for the Canadians. Sympathy is extended to Ron and Norma Smith and family in the untimely passing of Ron's youngest sister. W.I. Marilyn Green was one of seventy delegates from across Ontario who attended the 4-H Foods and Nutrition Leaders' Forum held last week. This was a three day workshop held at the Holiday Inn in Etobicoke. Various topics were addressed including nutrition issues related to adolescents influences of media on weight control and fitness status, how to evaluate credible sources of nutrition information, food additives, irradiation and methods of safe food handling. The forum also included a tour of General Foods and its test kit- chens.
