Farm retirement lots rejected by councillors Scugog Council appears to be sending out a signal to landowners in the township that they will op- pose farm lot severances unless they are can be justified. Two applications from a list of eight were tumed down Monday, one of those being Scugog coun- cillor Don Cochrane. Mr. Cochrane, who has owned the property since 1972, applied to create a rctirement lot on his .46 hectar Scugog Island farm. In turning down the Cochrane application, council indicated they could not justify the severance for a retirement lot because the farm was less than 50 acres in size, and also there was some doubt as to Mr. Cochrane being a bona fide farmer. Councillor Christie who intro- duced the motion to deny the sev- erance said she understood that a major part of one's income must come from the farm to qualify as a bonificd farmer. The second severance to be turned down was that of Mr. Char- lie Fee of Cartwright, who wished to obtain a serverance for a family member. Again, council felt they could not approve this application, as a retirement lot has already been se- vered from the property. There has never been a house built on the se- vered lot. Six applications for severances for retirement lots were approved, as follows: Morley and Helen Par- ish; George Geelink; F.w. Cooper; John Leask; Trevor Nesbitt and Tony Becker. Following the Flower Show the group enjoyed touring Cullen Barns. This outing was certainly a breath of spring in the middle of winter. A delightful day. Nancy Green enjoyed a trip to Cuba with groups of students from Queen's and Western Universities. A pleasant change from the studies. Glen and Joan Grove enjoyed a weekend holiday in the Kitchener - Waterloo area where they toured many of the local points of interest.
