Born in Toronto, she spent many years as a secretary- receptionist making lifelong Rita Florence Jefford friends with whomever she came in contact. On coming to Port Perry, John and Rita brought their four children. Another three children were born while they lived here. Grooming snow trails? When should the township send out its sidewalk cleaning machine onto the streets? That's was the question Councillor Marilyn Pearce brought before council Monday moming,. Councillor Pearce said she has had a number of complaints about the sidewalk snow removal, one of which is the blower doesn't clear the sidewalk properly. Roads superintendent Ronn MacDonald explained that the blade was kept about half an inch from the sidewalk so it doesn't get damaged on cracked sidewalks. SEWING MACHINE REPAIR SERVICE "We are just grooming the side- walks for the snowmobiliers" said councillor Pearce, and wondered if they shouldn't cease snowplowing on residential streets where the plow doesn't fit properly. "I hope you're ready for the phone calls on that one, because I'll refer my calls to you" said Mayor Hall. No action was taken on the re- quest, although Mr. MacDonald said he would instruct the snow plowing crew not to go out unless there was over two inches of snow on the sidewalks. WEST massonianon ov reauest Rita was a devoted mother to all seven children, and welcomed their friends who periodically visited. Many joyful hours were spent with young people in her company. Rita devoted a lot of her time to the Scout Mothers, Guide Mothers, and the Anglican Church. Many batches of cookies, tarts, etc., went to Scout and Guide camps and local church functions. Before, the family left Port Perry she was awarded the Scout Mothers' Auxiliary pin for her outstanding and lengthy service. The family moved to Elliot Lake, where they lived for ap- proximately twelve years. Rita put enthusiasm and energy into all things she did, and even though sometimes she was not in the best of health, many hours were devoted for the enjoyment of others. Rita had a happy way of look- ing at life and believed in her father's motto: 'If you can't say anything good about someone, say nothing." Her family members were always at her side on every vaca- tion. Their education and outlook on life was enhanced by the many travels which the family was able to make. Rita's organizational ability to look after nine people at every meal, plus all those who might be visiting, was phenomenal. She never seemed to get upset under any circumstance and there always was a ready cup of tea for anyone who dropped in. The happiest moments in her life were when her children grew up and were happily married. As each grandchild arrived, she was very thrilled. Holding a baby in her arms always evoked a great feeling of elation in her. Many lonely individuals en- joyed an extra sense of happiness because of Rita's attention and in- terest in their well-being. The last ten years of retirement was spent on Lake Simcoe at Big Cedar Point. With Rita's passing, the world has lost a very warm and caring person. She will be missed by her devoted husband, seven caring children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. A lovely person, who was true and loyal, Rita Florence Jefford will remain in our memories forever. = to yf ON DEDUCTIBLE OF ANY INSURANCE!
