TT VII AE NUH = WE TA AN RaS). =v... adhd " +4 Ja == | PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 14, 1989 -- 11 Partners work to xed Yvonne James and Ruth Grant used to travel to Oshawa for body toning sessions. And they would meet a lot of other Port residents there do- ing the same thing. Last summer, Ruth and Yvonne began to wonder if Port Perry was ready for a toning sal- on. They decided the community is ready. So, they went into part- nership, ordered the equipment, found a suitable location at 40 Water Street, picked a name for the new business, and last No- vember, Classic Neubody opened its doors for the first time. And so far, they say, they have had no regrets at all. "We are quite pleased with the way things have gone for us," said Yvonne in an interview last week at the busy salon where eight ton- ing tables were in constant use. What the toning tables do is move the body in a way that firms and tones the muscles. Yvonne refers to it as "passive exercise" that does not lead to sore and aching muscles the next day. She points out that sessions on the toning tables will not by themselves result in weight loss. But when the toning sessions are co-ordinated with a strict diet (1200 calories daily) a person will lose pounds and inches easily and without strenuous exercise in the traditional sense. The salon is tastefully decorat- ed in shades of pastel pink and contrasting grey, with a TV set and a coffee pot that's always on. Ruth and Yvonne worked hard to create a relaxing atmosphere where people can enjoy them- selves as they have their sessions on the toning tables. "And business has been brisk since the partners opened last No- vember. A typical session at Classic Neubody lasts just over an hour, and begins with five minutes exer- cise on a stationary bicycle. Then the client moves through the eight different toning tables. One table, for example, gently vibrates the entire body, another moves the legs in a circu- lar manner, while still another nick-named "the milk-shake" vi- brates the back-side. The body moves with the movement of the tables, without resistance. These toning tables were ini- tially developed in Europe for physiotherapy purposes. Not only do they hope to tone muscles, they are good for circulation. When asked about the name "Classic Neubody," Yvonne said the 'classic' refers to the commu- nity of Port Perry, and the 'neubody' is self-explanatory. "We can help you come up with a new body," she said. Sessions on the tables can be tailored to suit the individual needs of a client. Ruth and Yvonne enjoy work- ing with people. They are friend- -ly, cheerful, out-going, and they say that working in the salon helps to relax them. "We enjoy ourselves here and we want our clients to do the same," said Ruth, Ruth's "other job" is with the Probation Office, while Yvonne operates a residential group home in Port Perry. Along with the toning tables, Classic Neubody offers clients manicures, pedicures, facials, wax- ing for hair removal and massag- es. Most of their clients are wom- en, both Yvonne and Ruth say men are more than welcome. "I think men might be a little shy," said Ruth with a smile. A one-hour session costs $10.50 and most clients take two each week, or a maximum of three. "Personal service m ) to me.
