L-- i - tel (Ii Cory F832 7 IE YEA FR 28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 11, 1989 On Sunday April 9, parents, friends and players of the Port Perry Ringette Association gathered at the Blackstock Hall to honour the girls who have played and worked so hard to bring honour to themselves. Some were very successful while others know that they put forth their best effort. After introductions of the ex- ecutive members the teams were brought up on stage and the girls introduced by their coaches. In our learn-to-skate, or bunny programme, Dana Forder and Rachel Traynor had the monumental task of putting our very young people on a pair of skates and teaching them the basic movements on how to cross the ice either forwards or backwards and hopefully without - falling too much. Thanks to these girls we have a basis for Ringette in future years. The Home Hardware Novice team were brought forward by a very proud coach Walter Senyk. Although these girls didn't win PORT PERRY & DISTRICT MINOR SOFTBALL ASSOC IATION Tryouts for Travelling Rep Teams MITE BOYS -- Ages 9 & 10 Years (born 1979-80) Mon., April 17; Tues., April 18; Wed., April 19 -- 6 PM R.H. Most sport- smanlike player named by the coaching staff was Bobbi-Jo Nor- ton. This team won the sport- smanship award at the Regionals. This was awarded because of their manner of play, their ac- tions on and off the ice, in the dressing rooms, the arenas and by the actions of their parents and fans in the stands and in the arenas. Congratulations girls! This is well-deserved. The Bruton's I.D.A. Petites were introduced by head coach Dan Harris. This team had a fair- ly successful year winning many tournaments. The sportsmanship award was presented to Kyla McCrae. The Allen's Siding Products Tweens were introduced by head coach Lloyd Morden. These girls met tougher competition this year and were not as successful as they might have wished. The sport- smanship award was presented to co-winners Kendra McCrae and Lori Buscher. The Sportsland Juniors were in- troduced by assistant head coach Rob Cooper. This team had a very successful year winning pearly every tournament and culminating their year with a league championship and then by winning the gold medal in the Regionals. Congratulations to the girls and their very proud coaches. The sportsmanship award was presented by Terry Bell. After all of the presentations and pictures were taken everyone sat down to a delicious pot-luck meal prepared by all the moms. A special thank-you goes to Pineridge Sports for donating the sportsmanship trophies this year. Please keep these dates in mind: Sun.
