PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 18, 1989 -- 11 Honeydale Women's Institute Leadership seminar held by Lillian Harper Following a delicious pot-luck luncheon, the annual meeting of Honeydale Women's Institute was held on Thursday, April 6, with a good attendance. We were pleas- ed to have Mrs. Helen McKena, District President, as our guest, accompanied by Mrs, Muriel Gib- son of Greenbank W.I. After the reading of the minutes, and treasurer's report, the roll call was answered by pay- ing of dues for the coming year. We are happy to have a new member join us, in the person of Mrs. Dorothy McLaren. During the business period, a letter from Bethesda-Reach W.I. concerning farm care for children was read. Our branch voted to make a contribution to this program, The report on the leadership seminar is to be presented at our May meeting. Plans were discussed for our bazaar to be held May 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Municipal building. The district annual is to be held May 25 at Greenbank. A commit- tee was named to find new accom- modation for our meeting, as our rental for our present place will be terminated with our June meeting. (From page 7) 25 YEARS AGO Thursday, April 23, 1964 - On April 18th a large gathering of Guides, parents and friends were present in the Blackstock United Church to witness the presentation of the highest Guiding Award, the "Gold Cord" to four of the 1st Blackstock Guide Company. Congratulations to Janice Byers, Joan Suggitt, Nancy Staniland and Lynda Kyte. These men were recently appointed to the Community Memorial Hospital Board: Harry Phoenix, Reach Township and chairman to the board; Charles Reesor, Port Perry and vice- chairman; Joseph Dowson, Scugog Township; Merrill Van- Camp, Cartwright Township; Allen Crosier, Ontario County Rep; and Dr. G.M. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Mills, who spent the winter months with i Mr. and Mrs. Victor Larocque, Cedar Creek, returned to their own home at Magnetawan last week. 20 YEARS AGO Thursday, April 24, 1969 John Gill from Rosskeen, Ivergordon, Ross-shire, Scotland will be staying at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Bert McFeeters and family, Cannington as a member of Young Farmer Delegates, an exchange delegation with the Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario. Among the 1,500 visitors at the new Community Memorial Hospital were Dr. M.B. Dymond, Ontario Minister of Health. He met with several hospital officials - B.A. Bohan, administrator; Mrs. Jean Gray, director of nursing; and Mr. Storey Beare, member of the hospital board. Over 100 persons attended the first meeting of the proposed Historical Society and listened to the speaker, Professor L. Johnson, Waterloo University, who has been commissioned to write the history of Ontario County. Mr. and Mrs. J. Foote are reported to have bought the pro- perty east of Greenbank recently vacated by the Angus Clement amily. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Steele, Nestleton, were honoured on Saturday, April 12th at Nestleton United Church when 150 relatives and friends joined the couple in celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. S. Calver of Leicester, Midland, England have been enjoying a visit with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stephenson, Queen Street, Port Perry. 10 YEARS AGO Wednesday, April 18, 1979 Although last Thursday was not the nicest day (cloudy & cool) it was warm enough to make Mother Nature release her icy grip on Lake Scugog and set this years official date for the ice leaving the lake at Thursday, April 12. A much-needed expandion of Prince Albert Public School moved a step closer to reality April 9 when the Durham Board of Education approved the preparation of architectural draw- ings for this year.
