Cornish Principal and Jerry Taylor, chairman of the Community Memorial Hospital building fund campaign, when the two men wriggled into a couple of desks in a Grade 5 classroom to turn over a cheque for the hospital. Cornish Public School collected $100 for the Community Memorial Hos- pital building fund. On March 12, Fund Chair- man Jerry Taylor accepted the cheque from Irene Manitius' Grade 5 class. "The building campaign has been a success because of people like you," Mr. Taylor told the ex- cited class of youngsters. The campaign is winding down, and Mr. Taylor said orga- nizers are happy to have raised $2.2million, just short of the $2.6 million goal. The Kindérgarten class topped "Z" week off with a trip to the Zoo. They have learned all the other letters in the alphabet and their sounds are now finished. They've also completed a unit on the five senses, ending with the sense of smell. Each stu- dent made one chocolate item (sometimes with help from Mom or Dad) and brought them into the class for the sale. Class spokesperson Darla Jones said not one crumb of chocolate was leftover. Darla's turtles and Pat Smith's fudge were amongst the first yummy items to sell out. Matt Grills made a chocolate cake, all by himself, that was raffled off. The class decided to donate the proceeds to the hospital be- cause, as Pat Smith said, "Eve- ryone goes to the hospital at least once in their lifetime." Everyone liked break af Christian School ward to the arrival of our new portable, which should come any day now. It sure will be nice to spread out a bit! "Mr. William Reimer of the Gi- deons was our Chapel speaker last Friday. He told us a bit about the work of that organization and also presented Bibles to our fifth graders. The week of April 24th is Chris- tian Education Week. On Wednes- day of that week we will be hosting our annual Grandparents Day. Students made invitations for their grandparents (or "honorary grandparents"), and they have been sent to the ap- propriate people. April 27th will be our Fine Arts - Talent night at the school, so many of the children are practicing their skills. Tuesday, May 2nd has been scheduled for Kindergarten registration at Scugog Christian School. Graduation night (Grade 8) has been changed to Wednesday, June 21. Help! Help! Since our playground is very muddy at the moment, we would appreciate it if the children would wear their boots to school. It also might be a good idea to send a dry pair of socks.
