32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 18, 1989 LLetters Water problems in Greenbank To the Editor: As you are aware, the Gino Testa Construction Company has purchased a 110 acre farm in Greenbank and proposes to build a subdivision of 60-80 homes in that location. Bouquets To the Editor: "Bouquets" to the editor for his common sense solutions to the problems concerning the spring on Durham 23 at Chalk Lake and "raspberries" to the Mayor for, voting to cap the spring. Obviously our mayor has never been in need of water like so many people are these days! B. Stanley Prince Albert Our family lives on King Street in Greenbank and the develop- ment will be right behind us. Quite apart from the fact that we moved to this town 10 years ago to get away from feeling boxed in by people and houses, we have another major concern about the proposed subdivision, and that is: water. As you know, those of us in the town who depend on private wells have found the quality of our water deteriorating badly over the past few years. While we have been promised a communal water system for some time, the project seems to have met with an endless series of delays. Over the next few years those of us who live in Greenbank are facing the inevitability of this town losing the wonderful 'small town feeling" that we have all en- No objections to yard To the Editor: (Re: Residents still opposed to a trucking yard April 11.) Speaking as a neighbour of Laverne Sutton for the past 19 years, I do not understand the upset over his building a home and having his business there. His present yard is just too small to * carry on with two trucks. Anyone passing will see it immaculately groomed and all vehicles parked neatly. The comings and goings of his trucks are barely noticeable. We are two doors away, and can hear if there is a lot of noise. There is none. Laverne's home will be near the township yard and close enough to highway 57 that he would not be travelling east on that road to any great extent. He works away from home during the day so he is not constantly coming and going. These are private people and good neighbours, please think again about your objections. Yours truly, Bonnie Hudson Scugog Township joyed so much. Our children's school experience will undoubted- ly suffer too as a result of all the growth projected. I suppose we must resign ourselves to these consequences of growth, but we do not wish to suffer as well an unbeatable deterioration in the quality and the quantity of our . Water supply. I know that the Durham Health Unit will back me in saying that this town cannot handle any fur- ther growth until existing water problems have been solved. This means that Mr. Testa must not be given the go-ahead to start con- struction until our new water system is in place. Sincerely TY and lace gown and the groom wore Janet Banting a white tux with tails. Greenbank Editor's Note: The above letter was sent to Scugog Township Council by Mrs. Banting, and a copy to the Port Perry Star for publication in this issue.
