Tennis buffs to clean up courts A general work party is plann- ed for this Saturday in order to get the courts in shape for this year's season. Wind-screens will be put up and a general clean-up of the courts and surrounding area. If - any members can help then come down in the morning, then play some tennis after the work is 'done! The deadline for signing up for .lessons is May 10th. If you were unable to register at the General Meeting then you have an oppor- tunity to sign up at the courts on May 10th from 7-9 p.m.. Lessons will be available on Tuesdays, Larry Amos of Cannington was presented with a plaque for marketing the highest quality hogs in the Durham West Region. The presentation was made by Ontario Pork Producers' Marketing Board director Ted - Jensen at a meeting of the Durham West Pork Producers' Association. Amos topped the 500 to 1000 hog category with an index of 109.7 in 1988. Nick Henshaw of Port Perry was the winner in the over 1000 hog category. His index for the year was 107. Wednesday, and Thursdays, run- ning for 6 weeks, beginning May 16th. Fees are $18.00 for Juniors and $30.00 for Adults. More details of this 'season starter' will be given next week. On the lighter side of tennis, a 'club pro' is someone who earns a living by giving lessons to kids and compliments to parents! See you on the courts! Farming awards In the small herd category, Ken Cryderman of Sunderland receiv- ed the award for an average index of 108. Ontario's market hogs are graded on an indexing system which measures the yield of lean pork from each carcass. An index of 109 means that the carcass produces 9 per cent more lean, saleable meat than the average when the system was begun in 1968.
