Long have we waited for this wondrous season of the year..with buds bursting on the trees; children gathering furry pussy willows; ducks in the pond; crows raucous and lively.. rude- ly cawing as they move about; robins busy searching for worms after the gentle rains; lawns green.. eager gardeners busily raking, trimming, and some have even planted a portion of their gardens! So.. let us live each day to the fullest..amid all this.. an en- chanting Spring here, and a lazy, warm summer on our doorstep! Wedding Anniversary Celebrated Roy and Doris Nottingham of Caesarea, were entertained by their family on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary, held on Saturday, April 22, in the Masonic Hall, Port Perry, with many relatives, friends and neighbours present for the happy event. A lovely tea prepared and served by Blue Ray Chapter, OES, was enjoyed, and later, a delicious roast beef dinner for ap- proximately 50 family members. In the evening they were joined by many other friends and relatives for a dance and social time, the main activity being a mock GARDEN 985-7363 PORT PERRY FEED 40 VANEDWARD DRIVE - (Behind Lake Scugog Lumber) wedding, Congratulation were received from Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney - Premier of On- tario - David Peterson, Govenor General of Canada - Jeanne Sauve, Ross Stevenson M.P. Durham, and Howard Hall Mayor of the Jownship of Scugog. Many gifts and cards were received. Out of town guests were present from Owen Sound, Lindsay and Combermere, Orangeville, Whit- by, Oshawa and Uxbridge. Roy and Doris also celebrated their Anniversary in Florida, when they were wined and dined at Bridge's Restaurant by 14 close friends on April 9. On April 12, the actual date, about 75 friends from Midway Mobile Home Park at- tended a social hour at the Rec. Hall where anniversary cake and punch were served. Truly an an- niversary never to be forgotten! A Delightful Holiday Bill and Kay Ingram of Nestleton, have recently returned from an interesting winter in Southern States. They were in Winter Haven, Florida, for a period of three months, then travelled in their R.V. to Califor- nia, seeing many beautiful places of interest along the way. The weather was perfect. Happy Events of Interest Congratulations to Captain Alan Love of Caesarea, who has become a happy grandfather. His first grandchild, a baby boy, Charles Alan, was born April 27th, in Toronto East General Hospital! Congratulations, also, to Dale and Donna Bronson, Scugog Island, who are the proud parents of a little baby girl, Ashleigh Ann, born in Oshawa General Hospital, April 18. Welcoming the new baby home are brother Chris, sister Krispyn, and brother Andrew! Pine Ridge Garden Club What are you up to on Saturday, May 6th? Why not take a bus trip with the Pine Ridge Garden Club, to such interesting places as Civic Garden Centre at Edwards Gardens, for the perennial plant sale and a guided tour of the gardens as well! Birthday Celebration Best wishes to a great lady, Aunt Jane Boyes of Carnduff, Sask., who turned 93 on April 24th, and when asked by her niece Neta Fish, how old she was, she answered smartly "as young as my little finger and as old as my teeth!' A tremendous lady, bak- ing her own bread and making her own butter, besides everything else, she is a great friend and neighbour, well known for her generous ways, sharing with others! No wonder she received 3 birthday cakes! Caesarea Euchre The high score for the Wed. evening Euchre was held by Faith Lawrence with 103. Second win- ner was Irene Train with 87. Joe Anne B. came in third with 60. The lunch was served by Irene Train. Three tied for the most lone hands for April - Dorothy Ed- wards, Norman Rohrer and Sharon Smith with 11. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Rev. Fred Swann conducted the service at 11 a.m. with Shirley Scott at the organ. The responsive reading was Psalm 19, and the Scripture, Acts 2: 3747. Speaking on the Selection from Acts, as Peter preaches, we are given blueprints of what should characterize what the Church stands for - concern, fellowship, love, prayer and witness! Nestleton United Church The friendly greeters at the door were Robert and Carol Mairs, Steven and Katie for the 11:15 a.m. service on Sunday, April 30. . The choir number was har- monious, entitled, "Jesus, Wonderful Lord" with Gwen Malcolm playing the organ. Later the con- gregation joined in! Rev. Dale Davis and Intern Minister Nor- man Seli each presented a message bringing to the fore many thoughts re: Norman's period with the Nestleton con- gregation (as this was his last Sunday with us.) Kay Notman presented Norman with a token from the charge, and sang a lit- tle verse in keeping with the oc- casion! After the final hymn Nor- man gave the Jewish greeting and farewell, singing, Shalom! Shalom! before closing with Benediction! The afternoon Unit of the Nestleton UCW will meet at the home of Irene McKee on Tuesday, May 9th at 1:30 p.m.. Neta Fish and the hostess Irene in charge of worship, program and refreshments! Social It was very pleasant to have old friends Russell and Edda Bowman of St. Christopher, for dinner on Wednesday evening, -and enjoyed a visit. Also, good to see Norm and Bernice Mairs of Janetville, who were callers on Wednesday morning, and another great visit enjoyed by the Cawkers of Scugog Point. Cancer News The Cancer Campaign is now over, as of April 30. A warm, sincere thank you to the many canvassers who worked hard dur- ing the recent campaign, as yet we do not know the results, we'll inform the public at a later date. Also, a thank you to the folks who gave most generously to the fund! It was much appreciated! Smorgasbord (mmm..) Is All Set For May § To avoid disappointment get your tickets soon for the Spring Smorgasbord, to be held this Fri- day evening at the Nestleton com- munity Centre, with settings at 5 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.. All is in readiness for this delightful an- nual smorgasbord, which is ex- pected to be better than ever! The Nestleton Women's In- stitute will hold their meeting and plant sale this Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. in the Nestleton Community Centre. A good attendance is - hoped for! Try and attend!
