Letters to the Editor i Si RP PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 2, 1989 -- 39 Id Resident of View Lake angered by being passed-over (From page 10) Rd. the first year, ending halfway into Caesarea. The second year's construction, to continue on into Caesarea, providing curbs and sidewalks. The third year, a con- tinuation from Scugog Pt. Rd. halfway up to View Lake, and the fourth year, to continue on from there, up to the View Lake Boundary. The original survey suggested beginning at the View Lake boun- dary, as, in their opinion, these first two stretches of 57 were in the worst state of repair, pro- viding dangerous driving condi- tions due to its many curves, and motorists travelling this route, both residential and seasonal. I want Caesarea residents to know that the residents in View Lake, in our petition, were not try- ing to squeeze or freeze any work done to your area, as suggested in the article printed in the Port Perry Star April 25/89, "View Lake road will not get priority this summer." We in fact, by our own council, were the original ones squeezed out and now have been made to wait a few more years for our road's repair. I want to state that it was not our present council who passed us by, but our previous council, who waived our section of 57 to have to wait till last, even though in the opinions of professional engineers, our section was sug- gested to be done first. It was through View Lake residents petitioning and phoning our representatives over the past years, that this section of 57 is even being repaired at all. It was our anger at having been passed over again this year for repairs, and some unfortunate ex- petition from the residents of Caesarea should they support our petition, and voted us down. Now, readers out there are go- ing to say to View Lake, '"'what are you complaining about. You're going to get it done in two years time anyway, so stop com- plaining." That's pretty well what council told us, but you see, we did our homework. The Regional gov't may not have enough funds next year to do our section of 57, due to budget costs, so we may in fact have to wait an additional few years on top of our planned two year wait, to have our road completed. Our representative on Council, Glenn Malcolm, suggested that Yvonne Christie ask Regional Council for some sort of confirma- tion, that if this does occur, they * Community newpapers remain in th fix the worst areas in our piece of 57, by strips, and then when there is enough funding, to go back and fix it in the areas that weren't done. , We asked that this not be done, as this not only makes for another poor road, but they might just decide, after doing the bad strips, to not come back at all, and use the money elsewhere again. We said if we couldn't get the support of our council, then to just leave well enough alone, so we'll at least have it done properly. Well, I've said my piece, and the experience has been very educating. We at least will get a "View Lake' sign, and at least now Scugog knows we exist. I in- vite anyone who lives in Scugog Township to attend council meetings and to be aware what e home a long time - for example, almost 60% your representatives are doing for you! You may be surprised, and ask yourself why you even voted for that person. View Lake residents have become very informed, and we'll be observing council very regularly, either by attendance, or through the paper, but papers don't print everything. So be aware...next year we may be back. Thank you. Barb Walton View Lake BEAT THE HEAT have a CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER installed now.
