Letters Disposing of leaves no problem (From page 7) time leaf mold was readily available for purchase but because of length of time it takes for leaves to rot it became too costly for Nurseries/Garden Centers. There are shredders now available which run from $150.00 to $400.00 which will chew up leaves and twigs and composting does not take as long. Would it be less costly to the Township (and Tax Payers) to purchase one & perhaps hire students to run this operation and set aside a special day to pick up leaves & brush. The brush or twigs could be tied into bundles & leaves in biodegradable garbage bags. The bags could be reused to bag up the processed leaves and twigs. I am sure that gardeners/growers/farmers who are now growing organically would come to a designated area to pick up this natural organic fer- tilizer. There is enough pollution in this world today and using petrochemicals does not lessen the problem. We may think (or not think) about what is happening in our world today with the use of con- taminating chemicals, aerosol sprays etc., we are getting along -okay. But, what will it do to future generations, our children & grandchildren being born today. Will they eventually be walking "around with bubbles over their heads and an air pack on-their backs to breaths? Chemicals are "even used in our septic systems to create bacteria to break down the matter disposed there. Is it more convenient to just throw tablets or powders down the toilet. In the 'good old days" when there was no pollution or chemicals, dead animals or pork liver was used. Anyway, I am now rambling on, I only meant to write about the leaf problem, but, I hope this let- ter will make you sit up and think about what we are doing to our en- vironment and what we can do to further prevent polluting our wonderful world. Thank you for reading this. PS: You can drop off any leaves at our place, in biodegradable bags of course! Shirley Love, Summit Dr. Caesarea Corrections An article in the May 9 is- sue of the Port Perry Star sug- gested that Ridgeland is propos- ing a new road east or west in connection with the develop- 'ment of a further nine holes at the Oak Hills course. A representative of the company said that is not the case. Ridgeland is not proposing tobuild a new road. doko Also in the May 9 issue of the Star, an article about the Port Perry High School At Home Dance suggested that persons could attend as singles. It is school policy that cou- ples only tickets are sold for the At Home Dance. The Star regrets an incon- venience that may have result- ed.
