14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 16, 1989 Letters to the editor Must do something to save lives To the Editor: I received a strong message this past Sunday from my parish priest, Father Tom Lynch. He spoke on abortion and what are "we," as 'Christians' doing about it. We just happened to be having a baptism this particular Sunday and as Father spoke my eyes were on the small innocent baby lying in her mother's loving arms. Father's words penetrated to the very depth of my soul and that Dangerous intersection (from page 7) on Regional Road 8 from Lilla St. west to the arena and church, with a "Children Crossing' sign at the Simcoe St. intersection. This should be implemented now - not when the new school is opened. There are many children who ride their bikes to the soccer fields, plus children and adults who walk or jog this area in the summer. Yours truly, Melody Moase, Port Perry was all it took for me to realize that I must do something, anything, to help save the lives of these innocent little creatures of God from such a fatal death. They have no say in the matter; "Who's going to help them?," was the pleading and sure frustration I heard and felt in Father's voice. So out I went to my first Pro-Life meeting. What I learned there was devastating. More innocent babies have been killed than humans have died in 80 years of warfare and it will continue to happen unless we try to do something about it. Since 1969, when the laws were changed to permit abortion over 1 million Canadian babies have been put to death. Life starts at the point of conception contrary to what so many women are brainwashed in- to believing to make them feel more comfortable about aborting their child. The saddest part of it all is that these babies are put to death because the mother's found it simply inconvenient to have them at this time in their lives. Has our society really become so materialistic that human life does not take precedent over a career or for whatever good reason a woman may feel she has the right to commit murder of her own child. When the family is put se- cond place, it seems so. Apparently a pill has recently been produced that can be taken to abort a baby. Who ever thought getting rid of a child could be as easy as taking a pill. We must not let this drug get to market or the slaughter of the unborn will be greater than ever before. One of God's most important commandments is to love thy neighbor and how can we say we do this if a mother cannot even love the gift from God growing in- side of her womb enough to give this little baby the right to life. Sure, women have a right to be in control over their own bodies, but this is a body within the body with a soul. It is not her body but another human being with no one to defend it's rights. I am writing this letter to ap- peal to anyone out there who values life, to write to the Prime Minister and your local Member of Parliament concerning your feelings against Abortion and the Abortion Pill. Unless everyone who believes life is sacred is not ready to participate in some way, killing will become a way of life for our society. We will kill whoever poses an inconvenience. They are already trying to pass a law in the Netherlands to legalize Euthanasia. Where will it all stop? Next it will be the mentally retarded or severely handicap- More than 200 people from as far away as Michigan visit- ed Prince Albert's Community Hall last Saturday to take a ped.
