Honeydale W.l. meeting The May meeting of Honeydale Women's Institute was fairly well attended, with those present be- ing welcomed by our President, Mary Cannon. In the absence of our Secretary, Jean Carnochan, the minutes were read by Helen Thomson. The Roll Call "Name a trip Highlight" brought a variety of interesting replies, showing that many of our members have done a fair amount of travelling. During the business period, plans were made to attend the district annual at Greebank on Thursday, May 20th, with some members going in the afternoon [=] There was some discussion As reported last month, we are DURHAM REGIONAL CRIME STOPPERS r "i | 5 Al IN i I i EARN A CASH REWARD ca: 436-8477 IF LONG DISTANCE « CALL COLLECT OR CALL THROUGH YOUR LOCAL DURHAM REGIONAL POLICE NUMBER é D ve _- Co pos Cd PRODUCTS INCLUDE: -- Pressure Treated Lumber -- Quality Interlocking Stone --- All Galvanized Metal FREE ESTIMATES QUALITY WORKMANSHIP SERVICES INCLUDE: -- Fencing -- Decking -- Pool Enclosures -- Retaining Walls -- Interlocking Stone Book Early, Beat the Summer Rush! . 986-0801 Sales & Service, Finest Fencing Co., R.R. 1, Blackstock, Ont. Our Motto "" You have to live with yourself, so be sure you have good company," was ably taken by Edna Wilson, who presented a most thought provoking talk, referring, also to a centennial celebration to be held at Lindsay Collegiate Institute in the near future which she and her husband hope to attend, as her husband had been a student at the school. Nellie Nottenboom gave a reading concerning stress and ways of dealing with it, which was most timely in these times of much stressful circumstances under which many people live. Lillian Harper gave a few com- ments on "Public Relations," par- ticularly relating to situations bet- ween gangs in the urban centres and the police, also the subject of racislm, which has been publiciz- ed recently in police hiring, etc., a subject that will be with us for some time to come, we fear. Following adjourment, we sang "The Hymn of all Nations," and enjoyed a social cup a of tea. As had been planned at our April meeting, we held an auc- tion, which was interesting and successful thanks to all those who contributed items, and to Clara Warren, who was our auctioneer. Vote on garbage 3 (From page 1) 'at the massive Brock West dump. Last week, a public meet- ing in Pickering over the gar- bage issue attracted a large and angry crowd which angrily told Durham politicians they don't want to see as much as one tonne of Metro garbage dumped inthis Region. * Many of those at that meet- ing live in or near the hamlet of Whitevale which has been sug- gested as one site for an interim landfill. Several people represent- CENTRAL VAC NOW AVAILABLE BAVE UP TO S280. . = ing Whitevale resiedents have requested to address Regional council this week prior to the vote on thisissue. And Ajax Mayor Jim Witty, along with his Pickering coun- terpart Wayne Arthurs both want Durham to pursue a policy of allowing Durham only trash to be dumped in any new land- fillin this Region. If a similar meeting in the Regional council chambers a month ago is any indication, the one this week promises to be long, loud and angry.
