The plan to sever the five * lots in the northeast quadrant of the hamlet was presented to council Monday afternoon by Arlene Malcolm who operates the large hog farm. Her husband, Ward 4 coun- cillor Glenn Malcolm declared a conflict of interest and left the council chambers during the discussion. Concern that five new building lots in the hamlet, which now has just 156 homes, might impact negatively on well water supplies were expressed by Robert and Carol Mairs and Warren Briggs. They also expressed fears that if the lots were approved, it might open the way for further severances from farmland abut- ting the hamlet. New toy lending library The New Toy Lending Library is having a toy drop off Saturday, June 3rd, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Toys of the non-violent nature and non-plush type can be drop- ped off at this time in the YMCA building across from the IGA store on Queen Street. If you have any questions about registration then bring them along and we will be pleased to answer them. Please remember that registrations are limited to thirty families because the amount of toys will be starting the library which will only accom- modate so many people coming to borrow out a number of toys. We: hope to later expand to more families when we build our reper- toire of toys. Also, a special thanks to all that contributed their time and efforts to our very-successful Fundrais- ing Fashion Show on Wednesday, May 17. 139 WATER ST. . 6 HIGH STREET PORT PERRY (7 And they suggested that people who buy the proposed ots might raise objections to the farming operations nearby. Mrs. Malcolm told council the five acres of land have little agricultural value. And she said that in order to comply with farm codes of practise, hogs could be moved to another barn further away from the lots. She also said if the sever- ances are approved, eight new street lights would be put into No decision yet "the hamlet at no expense to the Township. . : Mrs. Malcolm asked coun- cil to re-zone the land from the current Rural designation to residential. She said there are no plans for future re-zonings on the land. Council took no decision af- ter the public hearing on Mon- day. Mayor Howard Hall sug- gested that the decision would be made on the application in the very near future. Accountant asks conversion of house to office space A proposal to convert a large Casimir Street home from residential to use as profession- al offices was presented to Township council Monday af- ternoon. : Paul Van Camp, a local chartered accountant, told council the home in question is knows as the Watson House, and is located at 204 Casimir St. at Perry Street. ; He said if the zoning change is approved, he plans to use the main floor of the house for his own accounting office, and rent the top floor as one more office. The house is about 2,000 square feet and sits on a lot 160 by 165 feet. Mr. Van Camp said the lot is large enough to provide more than the seven parking spaces spelled out in the by-law. And he said he has no plans to alter the outward appear- ance of the house, or change the landscaping. A letter of objection was re- ceived from nearby resident, and another expressed concern that office space in a nearby commercial building is not rent- ed at this time. Mr. Van Camp said the property is within the Main Central Area of Port Perry. Council is expected to make a decision on this re-zoning ap- plication in the very near fu- ture. 1.)
