Anderson Chev Olds vs Greenbank Four-Kees This match-up proved to be a batter's game as both teams were consistent with their hits as Chev Olds won the game 13-11. Greenbank's fielding was on the move as were their bats. Jay Flet- cher and Kevin Edwards made their mark with home runs. T. Keeble finished the game with a grand slam making this a very exciting game. Anderson Chev Olds proved they had some more heavy hitters in their line-up as Jon Chambers bat connected several times while Erin McMaster's keen eye resulted with some excellent walks. The Greenbank Mites (7-8) sponsored by Greenbank Garden Centre ran their unbeaten streak At Corner Five by John "Wally"' Nesbitt After a long winter of watching replays of last year's races and visiting exhibitions featuring exotic and gleaming but silent and immobile cars, it's great to see the racing season return to Southern Ontario. The season began at Mosport with the Victoria Day Sprints and Richard Spenard of Shannonville picked up right where he left off last year, taking the checkered flag in the Rothman's Porsche Turbo Cup Race. Next, as the reigning champion in the Player's LTD G.M. Motorsport Series, Spenard returned to the track and claimed victory in his Motormaster Camaro. Other winners this weekend were Jason McCann claiming his first-ever victory. In the Beckers/Canon Formula 1600 Event and the Disco Dacton, Marc Dancose, capturing the Honda Michelin Challenge ce. And this is just an indicator of things to come this season. Here are a few special events to keep in mind. The Rothmans Motorcycle Grand Prix comes to Mosport the first weekend in June featuring the fifth round of the World Superbike Championship. : Three weeks later, also at Mosport, the I.M.S.A. Series GTO/GTU cars take to the track in a 500 Kilometre endurance race with the Toyota Formula Atlantic Series providing backup. The Molson Indy is back for its fourth visit to the streets of Toronto from July 21 to 23rd. This event features all of the In- dianapolis stars battling it out for almost a million dollars in prize money with Canadian favorite, John Jones, hoping to better his -1988 finishing position of seventh. Supporting events are the American Racing Series (A.R.S.) featuring local drivers Paul Tracy, Danny Campeau and Tom Christoff, the Players Ltd. G.M. cars and in their first appearance this year in Canada, the Powell Motorsport (U.S.A.) Series, the Corvette Challenge. I only hope the concrete walls are kind to these fiberglass bullets. Local roundy-round fans should have a good year as well, as Ascot North, Mosport's sister track opens up this year just to the west of the main facility. This 1% mile clay oval will open on July 15 featuring the Wildones, The World of Outlaws and the USAC Midgets. On July 29 and 30th, the track is in for a real en- durance test as The Great American Truck Race (GATR) takes the spotlight. Watch out for these big rigs; highway haulers they ain't!! : € These are just a few of the hi-lites for the coming season so stay tuned for more information on the local scene. Next weekend Corner Five is off to Indianapolis to see what all the fuss is about and we should have some stories about that trip. Till then watch for us "From Corner Five."
