HE SER Ws SWE NER TN CWT TTT TE TT ENE WY YT 8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 13; 1989 Crime Stoppers offers awards Police asking for help in sex assault cases Crime Stoppers and Durham Regional Police are again asking for the publics help, in solving a number of Sexual Assaults which have occurred in the Whitby and Oshawa areas over the past few months. At about 12:45 a.m. on August 1st, 1988 a girl was walking East on Dundas Street East in Whitby just West of the Kendalwood Mall. She saw a man approaching her on the opposite sidewalk, and as he came closer, he crossed to her side. When he was beside her, he put his hand over her face and dragged her into the bushes. He then pinned her arms with her jacket and sexually assaulted her. During the violent struggle, she managed to bite him twice. The Millar Lites, a childrens theatre group from Scugog, gather around thelr director and good buddy Dr. Tom Millar at the plano during rehearsals recently for Standing Room Only. They are getting ready for three shows of Standing Room Only at Town Hall 1873 on June 23-24. Dr. Tom, as he Is affectionately called by the kids, has worked countless hours with this group of youngsters. SRO Is filled with songs, skits and comedy, and tickets are now on sale. (see story on page 18 for more information on the Millar Lites) A re-enactment of this assault will be shown on CITY TV, Chan- nel 57, Cable 7 on Thursday, June 15th, 1989 during the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news. It will also be shown on CHEX TV in Peterborough and CKVR TV in Barrie on Friday, June 16th, again during their news. Another similar incident occur- red on October 27th at about 10:30 p.m. in Oshawa. A woman was walking East over the bridge on Gibb Street at the General Vanier School, when a man grabbed her. He dragged her underneath the bridge and eventually to a field where she was sexually assaulted. On December 16th at about 11:15 p.m. another female was sexually assaulted in a very violent manner on Bloor Street just West of Simcoe Street at the Oshawa Creek. She had been walking over the creek, when she was attacked and dragged down an embankment where she was beaten and raped. Police feel that the same suspect is responsible for all three crimes and is described as: A white male in his early 20's, 5' 8" - 5' 10", medium build. He had short dirty blonde hair, just over his ears and it was either wavy or curly. He had a full length face with deep set eyes. On the last occasion he was wearing a heavy dark green jacket with a fur hood. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of the person involved in the Assault.
