Cabaret returns to Town After a successful and highly acclaimed concert at the Town Hall in 1987, Classical Cabaret returns, for a special Festival Days event. The concert, spon- sored by Settlement House, will provide an electric blend of light - opera and music theatre.. The Cabaret has delighted audiences small and large across Ontario, including last summer's suc- cessful series at the Shaw Festival. Director Ruth Morawetz is ex- perienced in a wide variety of ac- companiments, which stem from work with the music theatre divi- sion at the Banff Centre, and the Charlottetown Festival, and her position as music director for the Muskoka Summer Festival. She has also worked with such diverse performers as Robert Goulet and . Jan Rubes. Classical Cabaret - Programs, are up-beat, entertain- ing and always different. Soprano Lynn Blaser has sung leading roles with the Canadian Opera Company, the Calgary, Opera, Guelph Spring Festival, Toronto International Festival and the Bermuda Festival to name a few. She is in demand for concert -engagements across Canada and was most recently heard on CBC Radio with the Toronto Symphony. Lynn is con- 'sidered to be a sensitive inter- preter of contemporary music and is rated for her abilities in hundreds of songs. Joel Katz has recently been described as one. of Canada's most impressively developing operatic basses. He was a prize winner at the Munich Interna- . tional Voice Competition in 1982, and has won major awards from the Chalmers Foundation and the Canada Council. He sang for two 'years with the opera company in West Germany and has perform- ed across Canada with the Cana- dian Opera Company Ensemble. Joel appears regularly with Opera In Concert and he has been a soloist with the St. Louis Sym- phony, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Edmonton Sym- phony and Symphony, Nova Scotia. Beth Ann Cole is one of Canada's leading musical theatre performers, who works on stage, television, radio, and in the recor- ding studio. She has crossed Canada with her one-woman show and has appeared at the Blyth Festival and Shaw Festival in ti- tle roles. Her new show, "Beth Ann Cole, Me Myself & Music" is at the Red Barn Theatre, Jackson's Point, July 26-29, and Aug. 2-5, 1989. The show promises to be an ex- citing mix of serious and comedic music. One number to call launches provincial trauma referral A program to simplify the referral process by which major trauma, spinal cord injury, and burn patients are currently refer- red to specialized trauma centres in Toronto was launched July 1in Ontario. Sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Health, the new In- tegrated Trauma Program will' elimate multiple calls to in- dividual emergency departments to accept referrals of trauma pa- tients from more than 100 com- munity hospitals. With the growing specialization of trauma and burn centres, in- creasing amounts of patients are referred - often innundating already over-burdened hospitals.
