He commenced his duties at the Municipal Office on Monday. Following a recent survey undertaken by the Port Perry Recreation Committee, it became apparent that there was suf- ficient interest in the game of tennis to form a club and start looking for facilities. Glen Sweetman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Sweetman, Prince Albert, has been accepted in the Canadian Armed Forces and will leave for Cornwallis, N.S., on July 19th for basic training. Scugog Aviation, a company owned by Ted Griffen and Jim Pengelly, was recently awarded a federal license and are fully qualified to operate passenger service from the company's base in Port Perry. 10 YEARS AGO July 11, 1979 - Scugog Township council has officially hired a new clerk- administrator who will assume complete control over the treasury, clerk, and by-law departments of the municipality. The move was made at the regular meeting of council Monday even- ing when members agreed by a vote of five to one to hire Earl S. Cuddie to the $24,000 a year position. For the second time inside a week, a major fire has destroyed a barn in old Reach Township resulting in considerable loss of livestock. The latest blaze broke out last Thursday even- ing about 6:00 p.m. at the farm of Earl Bacon on the 11th Conc. about one mile west of Greenbank. Strong northwesterly winds fanned the flames which even- tually destroyed the large L-shaped barn, about 30 head of Hols- tein cattle, and an undetermined number of sheep. With the cutting of a bright red ribbon last Friday morning, Philp Pontiac-Buick Ltd. officially opened its new premises on the Oshawa Road, just south of Port Perry. Bev Driscoll has been hired to conduct a survey which is be- ing carried out by the Scugog Recreation Coinmittee, and once the data has been compiled, the Committee will start preparing for a long-range strategy and plan for recreation in the Township. Ken Holliday, a real estate salesman with George Stone Real Estate since his opening in December 1971, recently joined the exclusive "Million Dollar Club." I think we need to stop arguing amongst ourselves in regards to protocol, and start looking at the efforts and just means of how we plan to turn this collision course Port Perry Star we're headed on around, for our childrens sake. The "Sons of Liberty," Prime Minister - Macdonald, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were all call- ed radicals, because they fought for their beliefs and stand for Democracy.
