Peterborough battled back and made the score 4-3 when catcher Greg Rankin threw out the tieing run trying to steal second base. Todd Smart and Cory Bricknell also collected hits in this victory. Jeff Card was the winning pit- cher allowing only 5 hits while striking out five batters. The MoJacks advanced to the championship game with two con- vincing victories over Millbrook and Cobourg. The boys had their hitting shoes on as Simon Traynor, Kent team knew it had to end eventually. But the Jamieson, Chad Venning, Stephen Parish and Chad Kearns all had multi hit games. Gavin Cochrane and Jeff Card with his second win, pitched strong games for the victories. In the championship game on Saturday night, the MoJacks played one of the strongest teams _ in Eastern Ontario as they faced Kingston Township. These two teams gave the local fans one of the finest softball games played this year at the waterfront park. The local team jumped into an early lead in the first inning as Duane Empringham singled and pushed their 20 game undefeated streak one more game. e tournament in Port Perry Saturday to King- e team from left front: Cory Bricknell, Jeff Card and Duane Empringham. In the second inning the Mo- Jacks scored their second run as Duane Empringham singled, moved to second on a pass ball, and scored on Gavin Cochrane's single. In the bottom of the fifth inning Chad Venning reached first base with an infield single; Chad Kearns running for Venning, was then sacrificed to second by Todd Smart and scored on an infield out by Duane Empringham. In the sixth inning the Kingston Club showed how strong they are by scoring 4 runs on a walk, three singles and 2 costly errors by the MoJacks on hard hit ground balls. The visitors then 'shut the door" as they brought in their ace pitcher, Bill Clark and he put the MoJacks down in order in the sixth and seventh innings. The story of this game had to be the pitching of Chad Venning. The Arm wrestling ap A "Big Guy' pitched one of the best games of his young career as he didn't allow a hit until the fateful sixth inning, and had eleven strikeouts, in a fine effort. The MoJack players were quite rejected following the game, as they suffered their first loss of the season; but the coaching staff and parents were very proud of their effort to win the silver medals against a strong "A" classed Pee Wee Team from ~ Kingston f Township. { If the team can continue to im- prove and play this calibre of soft- ball, the outlook for the 0.A.S.A. Championship in Ossgood on Labour Day Weekend looks bright. Gavin Cochrane showed his value to this club with his hitting and pitching as he won the Sport- smanship Award. It should not go unnoticed, the good showing by the Port Perry Houseleague All-Stars, as they played in their first tournament { this year. this Saturday Close to 100 competitors are expected lock horns (er wrists) in Port Perry this Satur- day afternoon in the Fourth An- nual Festival Days Arm Wres- tling Championship. They will be battling it out for $2,000 in cash prizes along with trophies donated by local businesses. All the action gets under-| way at 12:30 PM sharp this Sat- urday, July 15in a tent near the Latcham Centre on the Port Perry waterfront. Arm wrestling competi- tions have been part of Festival Days for the last three years, and have drawn some of the top wrestlers in Ontario. ~ Last year, about 90 took part and organizer Mike Haigh says he expects the number to be even larger this year. "I think we'll have about 100," he told the Star, including several local competitors from Port Perry, Little Britain, Oshawa and Whitby. And he is anticipating oth- ers will arrive from places like SS Marie, London and even the States. There will be five right- hand weight divisions for men, two left-handed divisions and two ladies divisions. First prize in all categories will be $100 plus a trophy, with $60 for second and $25 for third. Haigh will be acting as ref-- eree this year along with Deryl Rue, a former Canadian cham- pion who hails from Alberta. Bill Zulepa of London will act as the MC for the afternoon. Haigh exepects that many of the top competitors will use the Port Perry event as a tune for the North American champi- onships to be held two weeks later in Quebec. Weigh-in and registration will take place on Saturday morning from 9:30 until noon. The tournament is present- ed in co-operation with the Scu- gog Chamber of Commerce, as part of the Festival Days Week- | endin Port Perry. - g Jeff Card of the Pee Wee MoJacks managed to steal home on this play during semi final tournament action Sat- urday in Port Perry.
