Viewpoint by J.B. McClelland (From page 7) tect itself by demanding a letter of credit to ensure that a demolition is done right and completed within a specified and reasonable period of time. Council has the authority to demand letters of credit from developers to make sure such things as roads, grad- ing, sidewalks on so on are completed in a new subdivi- sion. The same thing should be in the Township's power for demolitions, especially large-scale demolitions on a major thoroughfare in this community. | somehow find it difficult to believe, for example, that the city of Toronto would not have some legal clout to clean up a demolition site at the corner of King and Bay, rather than leaving a dangerous and un-sightly eyesore for an un- known period of time. I am not suggesting that every private citizen who wants to tear down an old shed or garage should have to negotiate a letter of credit to get a demolition permit, but for large scale projects like the one on Casimir, it should be mandatory. Scugog Township is moving into the big time with some very ambitious development proposals. The citizens of this community need some guarantees of jarslection from the problems that may accompany some of these projects.
