Both teams were short handed, but as they say in baseball, the game must go Ringette season is just around corner Ringette is a winter sport, that is played by girls of all ages, all over the world. It is a fast paced, no contact game played on an ice surface. There are six players from each team on the playing area at one time. The positions are goalie, two red sticks (defense), two blue sticks (for- wards) and one white stick (center). The game is played with a round rubber ring, straight sticks and hockey equipment. The ice surface is divided into three play- ing areas. These areas are: center ice area, where all players may enter and two defensive areas, where the defense and op- posing center and forwards can play. The Port Perry Ringette Association's Registration for the 1989-90 season will be held at the Port Perry Arena on Friday, August 18, 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, August 19, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Sunday, August 20, 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.. Fees for this year are $150.00 for one child with each additional child $125.00. There will be a late charge of $20.00 after August 20. Coaches Margaret Rowland and Sandra Kerry were voted to go out in the field and help out their team. After Margaret walked in a cou- ple of runs, the team decided maybe Sandra might be able to do a better job on the mound. After the 4th inning Perfect Heating was ahead 10 - 4. Nortons team called time and after a private meeting excluding their coaches, they decided the best place for Margaret and Sandra was out in the field. All of a sudden Nortons team started hitting and by the 4th inning Norton came back with -5 moreruns. The final score after 4 completed innings was 12-9 for Perfect Heating. What a game. All stars for Perfect Heating were Lisa Timms who made an awesome catch on third and who covered her positions well all evening. Hitting well for their team was Melinda Saunders and Tanya Wilson. Steven Postma played a good game hitting 4 for 4. Nortons team had Andrew .and Adam Jacobson both doing a great job pitching as well as get- ting on base all evening. Stephanie McKernan played a good solid game defensively. Both teams would like to thank Trevor MacSween and Sean and Jason Ellis for helping us out and I would like to thank Margaret and Sandra for a fun game. Plenty of activity for soccer Squirts There was a lot of activity at the Scugog Soccer fields Wednesday July 19 as almost all the fields had games going on them. Classic Photo played versus Raglan Welding to a 5 all tie. Scor- ing for Classic Photo was Darryl Dalton with all 5 goals and for Raglan Welding Russell Brown with 5. The Port Perry Star nipped the Royal Canadian Legion 4-2 in this well played game. Ryan Jansen and Ryan Jarvis for the Port Perry Star made several good defensive plays and Scott Cunn- ingham tallied the goals. For the Legion team Bob Cowie scored 3 and Joey Drebit got 1. Faith Schlofield and Michelle Andrews made some fine plays. The Lions Club defeated Van Camp by a score of 6 to 1 with Chad Lance playing very well and scoring 3 goals for a hat trick. Jason Whitworth also scored 3 and Brad Johnson scored the lone goal for Van Camp. Ben Russell and Mikey Kronschnoble shared the goal keeping duties making many fine stops. Joshua Helsdonn and Chris Medford played very well as did Eric Bird, Rory Bray and Chad Holland for Van Camp.
