A o for busy fall season As summer days roll gently by, theatre buffs and tourists head out of town for Ontario's ex- travagant festivals like Shaw and Stratford, or for smaller, summer-stock shows such as Lindsay's Kawartha Summer Theatre and The Arbor Theatre of Peterborough. And while the com- munity theatre season may be a few months away yet, the Borelians' board of directors are busily preparing for their most audacious slate of plays in recent memory. The 1989-90 line-up will provide Port Perry with challeng- ing and enlightening entertain- ment of the high calibre for which the Borelians have become noted throughout Central Ontario. The newly-formed Borelians executive for 1989-90 consists of a tight group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers with a common goal: top-quality theatre experiences for audiences, actors and techni- cians alike. The new chairperson is Sandra James-Mitchell, who adds this role to her other credits as teacher, actress, wife and mom. She takes over from Dave Ellis, who has been a stable force with the Borelians for over a decade. Dave will remain on the board as vice-chairperson. Returning as secretary and adding the duties of treasurer is the popular actress Sherri Todd. Members-at-large include John H. Foote (who will direct the season opener, "Death of a Salesman"), Ed Daigle (who . will play the salesman, Willy Loman), Chris Francom, the talented designer/actor, and intelligent, - PAUL VAN CAMP Chartered Accountant newcomer Joe Szekeras, who brings a wealth of experience from his previous work at Whit- by Courthouse Theatre and Oshawa Little Theatre, and who will be in charge of publicity and promotion. During the month of August, members of the Borelians will be _ canvassing local businesses offer- ing merchants an opportunity to place advertisements in the 1989-90 program. This is an ex- cellent way for commercial enter- prises to reach discerning customers and also to show their Support for the Borelians con- tribution to the cultural life of Port Perry. The new season also marks the Borelians' first-ever subscription series. The series includes: "Death of a Salesman," Oct. 26, 27, 28 and Nov. 2, 3, 4, "Brighton Beach Memoirs," Feb. 22, 23, 24 and Mar. 1, 2, 3, and 'The Borelians Festival of One-Act Plays," May 10, 11, 12. Patrons may purchase a season's ticket for $25 ($20 for members) which provides; first choice of perfor- mance dates, guarenteed best seats in the house, a 30 per cent saving over the cost of tickets pur- chased separately and admission to all three nights of the One-Act festival and dance on May 12. Buying a season's ticket also shows your support for your com- munity's burgeoning theatre company.
