The popular couple greeting guests and family at the Oddfellows Hall during the afternoon. Married In Oshawa on September 16, 1953, they have eight children, including two sets of twins. Before moving to the Scugog area in 1953, the couple resided In Victorla Square. Messages of . congratulations were received from the Prime Minister, Gov- ernor General and other local politicians. The Flowers Section has 42 classes ranging from cut flowers, potted plants and arrangements. One special in this Section is a "Thanksgiving Mantle Piece." Domestic Science Section - Does Mom bake the "best' peach pie. If so, encourage her to enter the Peach Pie Special, sponsored by Fleishmann's. First prize is $30.00, second is $25.00 and third is $20.00. Other classes in this Sec- tion include cakes, pies, tarts, breads, cookies and candy. Domestic Science also has 2 classes for men - Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chocolate Layer Cake. The Canning Section has classes for Canned Fruit, Jams, Jellies, Relish and Pickles. Why not enter your homemade Spaghefti Sauce (meatless) or your Bread and Putter Pickles. The Senior Citizens Section has 13 classes. A few examples are a collection of 5 spoons or 5 thimbles. There is no entry fee for this Section. The Needlework Section has 49 classes covering knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting and miscellaneous classes for such items as a decorated guest a towel or a decorative cushion. Crafts and Hobbies Section has 23 classes. Silk Flower Arrange- ment, Item of Calligraphy, Ceramic Item, Pinecone Center- Eimer & Beatrice celebrate their 50th Anniversary Sunday August 13, 1989 was a special day in the life of ELMER AND BEATRICE HUGGINS as their family hosted an Open House at the Port Perry Odd- fellow Lodge Hall in honour of their 50 years of marriage. Prior to the Open House fifty- eight members of the immediate family sat down to a buffet luncheon. Elmer and Beatrice were mar- ried in Oshawa on September 16, 1939. Beatrice was the former Beatrice Frisby of Victoria Square (Unionville). Elmer and Bea first lived in various .com- munities in York Region before coming to the Region of Durham in 1953, and now reside in the Village of Sonya. All the children were together for the first time in fifteen years. Elmer and Beatrice also have nineteen (19) grandchildren and just recently became great- grandparents with the birth of a great-granddaughter in British Columbia. Relatives and friends came from Burlington, Toronto, Newmarket, Barrie, Orillia, Beaverton, Bowmanville, Peter- borough and Oshawa. Certificates of congratulations were received from Governor General Jean SAuve, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, M.P. On Saturday, August 5th, the Canadian Youth Exchange Pro- gram were at the Fairgrounds. Seventeen students (Canadian and from Ecuador) assisted in maintenance work at the Fairgrounds. the Fair Board would like to thank all those students for their hard work.
