Port Perry H. of H. battles to a tie against Uxbridge Uxbridge Optimists battled Port Perry House of Howard for second place in the Under 12 soc- cer league in their final game on August 16. Both teams played well defensively and both teams benefitted from excellent goaltending. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Scoring for Port Perry were Shamus Mac Cann and Craig Gulas. Uxbridge Optimists' who did the scoring were Philip McClorey and Curtis Geissberger. Outstanding players for Port Perry were Craig Short and Sandy Mark; Uxbridge's outstanding performers were Curtis Geissberger, and Robbie Lomas and Jack Skidmore, the two goalies. The tie game gives Port Perry House of Howard se- cond place in the final league standings with 16 points and Ux- bridge Optimists third place with 15 points. Meanwhile, the two teams with doubtedly proven to be one of the most improved teams in the league. In an exciting game Ux- bridge Rutledge . Jewellers defeated Stouffville by a 3-2 score. Sean Pearse, Doug Middleton and Bradley Pitchford with the game winner did the scoring for Ux- bridge Rutledge Jewellers. The outstanding player of the game was Bradley Pitchford, the high-scoring striker for the Ux- bridge Jewellers, who led the team's offense and scored an amazing goal to win the game. The MVP of the game was Allan Fergus, the all-star fullback for Uxbridge Jewellers, who has led a defense that has allowed only 12 goals against over the 12 regular season games, half the number of the second best defensive teams. This largely accounts for their 10 wins and first place finish. PeeWees drop third Sm Ti i Williams Arms 9 Stouffville 1 The Williams Arms Pee Wees visited Stouffville on Thursday to hand them their third loss to Port Perry Pee Wee Two's in as many games. The Williams Arms team, cap- tained by Josh Short, came out flying and Stouffville never had a chance against the forwards. John Hall scored three, Jerry Blackburn two, and the midfield accounted for the rest. Jeff An- drews, as usual, did a superb job scoring three, and Melissa Chilton played a great game, scoring her first goal of the season. Way to go Melissa! Steve Gilbert did a fine job in goal, while Jeremy Luke was unlucky not to score, but assisted on several. Adam Ross frustrated Stouffville with his speed on defence. Alan Calder, who recent- ly returned from England, put on a good show, neutralizing the op- position's attack. This was a excellent warm up for the play-offs which begin Thursday in Uxbridge. Scugog Soccer Atom Division Taylor Petro Canada showed no mercy to Dennis Anderson last week as they put fourteen goals into the net. Troy Martin and Jamie Stricket led the charge with four goals each. Matt Brown chipped in with a hat trick and singles going to Lindsay Allwood, Andrea Grills and Corey Branton. In the other game Taylor Ford Mercury with two goals from Chris Arnold overcame Bruton's I.D.A. by a score of 3-0. The other goal was scored by John Schewaga. The Atom Division finished up the regular season play last night (21st) and begins play-offs tomor- row (23rd). The schedule for the play-offs has been expanded from the information supplied earlier in the season and is as follows: Taylor : Petro Canada; Taylor Ford Mercury vs Dennis Anderson. Aug. 30 -- Taylor Ford Mercury vs Taylor Petro Canada; Bruton's 1.D.A. vs Dennis Anderson. The standings from these games will then determine the match-ups for Cup Day on September 9. Mosquito Division (boys) Only one game was played at Port Perry last week with House of Howard taking on Uxbridge. In a closely fought game House of Howard with only nine men managed a 2-2 tie. Goals from Graig Gulas and Seamus McCann were enough to secure the tie. Play-offs for the Mosquito boys begins Wednesday the 23rd in Ux- bridge with the quarter finals.
