JS | -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 12, 1989 Construction starts down during summer Building starts for the months of July and August in Scugog Township dropped off sharply compared to the same months in 1988. Scugog's building permit report shows only nine permits were obtained in July for single family homes, compared to 28 during 1988. During the month of Au- gust permits were down by ten from the 18 issued last year. Construction costs for single family homes in Jul this year reached $1,492,835.00 compared wi $3,825,075.00 the previous year. There was little ein August with 1988 reporting $2.4 million and 1989 only $1.15 million. A difference of close to $3.7 million dollars for these months in the last year. While residential permits were down, construction in the commercial sector was up by close to $250,000, although only one permit was issued in July for each of the past two years and one small permit in August. One area where permits did surpass 1988 this year was for swimming pools. Over the two months, twelve permits valued at $98,447.00 were issued, up $12,000 rom 1988. Total value of construction recorded to the end of August 1989s $26,537,401.00., down about $3.4 mil- _ lion from the previous year, 4 0 NN i 7 * Basic Sewing ARE * Pattern Making £ * Basketry Sy 2 * Country Decor Items "* Sweat Shirt Cardigan 71 * Christmas Craft Workshop *Smocking * New Quilt Patterns * Hand Quilting Techniques * Balloons and Drapes Oss ou -- FUN, and SELF-DEFENCE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY -- Affiliated with Toronto Wado Kai, under the direction of Chief Instructor Dave Manara, 6th Dan 77727777277/22/72772/27/2/7%/777% (/ A 4 ra J) ey A lard AP] 7 7 | 2 fi > x £79 4 Vl 7 Z rs 2 7 » 2 H ] ' rt A ships rss itd Fry vile ZZ "aftr yy oi 1A Wola J hre, PD =~ AN SX AN Visit the store to see our samples and join us for our OPEN HOUSE Sept. 14th from 7 to 9 & Sept. 16 from 10 to 2 located in Luke's Country Store 201 (ucen Street - Port Perry RRR LAS NN 7, PORT PERRY WADO KAI KARATE Proposed snowmobile bylaw will ban use of machines after 1a.m. It would appear that Scugog council is about ready to pass a bylaw which will regulate and prohibit the operation of motor- 1zed snow vehicles within the township. The bylaw has been in the works since last winter, when numerous complaints from township residents surfaced, forcing council to consider re- strictions. Under the pro d bylaw, it will be unlawful for anyone to drive a motorized snow vehicle along any highwa under the Jurisdiction of the Township of Scugog, or on any municipal property, including parks, un- ess they arelicenced. It will also restrict the use of a snowmobile along sidewalks, except when in the act of cross- ing at an angle of 90 degrees to the direction of the sidewalk. The driving of a snow vehicle will be permitted in public parks throughout the munici- pality except in areas where they are posted prohibiting their use. All councillors were not in agreement with this ban, but on a tie vote, Mayor Hall voted for the baning stating, "at least thisis a start." It was reported that the Port Perry Snowmobile Club is op- posed to any curfew on snow- mobiling, but most councillors felt the curfew was necessary. Anyone who contravenes the bylaw will be found guilty of an offences and upon conviction shall be liable to a fine which could be as high as $1000.00. Council is still waiting for some comments from the PP Snowmobile Club, but they hope to pass the bylaw in the near future.
