Game seven saw Port Perry and St. Marys battle it out, with Port Perry pulling off the win in the bottom of the 7th inning when they scored three runs giving them the game by a score of 9 to 7. The pitching once again was evenly matched with both pit- chers recording 10 strikeouts. Port Perry held a 4 run lead until the 5th inning when St. Marys got a rally going and closed the gap to one run. St. Marys pitcher Mark Robson fanned 3 of the 5 batters he faced in the bottom of the 5th inning. St. Marys took the lead in the top of the 6th inning but it was short lived when Port Perry had a run cross the plate to tie the game at 6 runs each. St. Marys got one run in their half of the 7th which meant that Port had to get a least one run to send the game into extra innings. Pitcher Robson ran into a little trouble when he walked two bat- ters in a row after striking out the first batter. With runners at first and second, Jason Heyworth step- ped into the batters box and hit a home run giving Port Perry the victory by a score of 9 to 7. This win meant that St. Marys were finished from further competition. One of the best games of the day ~ was played onthe south diamond when Fergus and Napanee met. It took Napanee their last at bat to pull it off to go undefeated for the day. The final score was 7 to 6. The winning pitcher in this game was Kevin Smart with 13 strikeouts while ace Paul Frayne had 6 for Fergus.. In the ninth game of the day, Fergus moved down to the north diamond where they faced Osgoode. This was the second gameé:in a row for Fergus, but they came away with a 10 to 4 vic- tory. Winning pitcher was Brad Walker with 12 strikeouts while loser Ryan Holmes had 13. Fergus put the game out of reach in the 3rd inning when 4 runs crossed the plate. The final game played on Satur- day saw the local Port Perry boys Jp against Gravenhurst. Port Perry came out very strong and -allied 9 runs in the first two inn- ings. Those contributing hits for Port were Doug Short, Jason Heyworth and Aaron Levy with 3 singles; Matthew Brown, Shane Norton, and Marc Versage with 2 singles while Ryan Puckrin had a double and a single. Ryan Williamson was walked his 4 ap- pearances at the plate but manag- ed to cross home plate three times. Game eleven played on the south diamond saw Napanee con- tinue to play the strong calibre they had shown on Saturday when they handed Elmira their first loss of the tournament by a score of 16 to 1. (Mercy Game). Kevin Smart was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts while Casey Halstead fanned 4. The only Elmira run came in the bottom of the 'third inning when Bryan Wilson singled to have Wes Grosz score. The game ended in the bot- tom of the 5th inning. Host Port Perry met the Fergus team at 9:00 and it looked as though they were going to ad- vance to the semi-final round when they took a 3 to 0 lead after three innings. An error in the 4th inning allowed 2 runs to come home for Fergus all with two out. The game was tied when Mike Swift tripled to score Kasey Beirness before Port could retire the side when pitcher Jason Heyworth struck out Scott Spike. Fergus then shut down Ports' offence over the next four innings. Centre fielder Paul Frayne clin- ched the win for Fergus to ad- vance them to the semi-final round when he hit a solo home run in the 6th inning, giving them a 4 to3 lead. . The winning pitcher was Kasey Beirness with 9 strike outs while Port Perry's Jason Heyworth recorded 8. The Port Perry team was eliminated from further competi- tion but are to be proud of their play over the two days and for their fourth place finish overall. In the semi-final game Fergus met Elmira who just didn't have the strength they showed on Saturday and were beaten by a score of 11 to 3. Fergus advanced to the Championship game against the undefeated Napanee team. The championship game was no contest as Napanee had their ace Local news, weather and information. Cory Brooks pitching against a team that was playing their third consecutive game of the day. Cory Brooks recorded 12 strikeouts while giving up only 4 hits. Brad Walker took the loss in giving up 16 runs on 14 hits while striking out 12 Napanee batters. At the conclusion of the cham- pionship game the closing ceremonies were held with Jack Cook representing the 0.A.S.A. making the presentation of the Championship Plaque, Banner and Crests to the Napanee team.
