PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 17, 1989 -- 25 And They're Off! At the Central Durham Cross Country Finals last week, representatives from schools as far away as Beaverton, Thorah, Uxbridge, Blackstock etc., met on the trails at Dagmar Ski Resort. The top finalists and the top finishing teams in each race will go on to the Dur- RE Fp Sp ne a REE SATIN " ham Finals on Tuesday. By the way, Cartwright is fielding 5 teams, not bad at all! Good start for Tweens The Allen Siding Products' Tweens started their regular season play Saturday evening before a large home town crowd, and came away victorious, with a 9-4 win over Ajax. The Ajax team looked much im- proved over the exhibition game that we had with them, and our girls had to keep the pressure on throughout the game. Penalties proved costly to us, as Ajax scored 3 power play goals. Some serious discussion took place after the game regarding the penalties. Tammy Pillman and Jennifer Morden played a strong game on defense and their importance is continuing to show. Michelle Fitzpatrick, Lyndsay Dutkewich, Kim Poppleton and Meagon Marlowe also took turns on defense and gave the added strength necessary to hold off the Ajax foward. Tracey Pelow did a great job between the pipes as she held Ajax to only 4 goals and kept her season goals against average to 3.66. Karen Kett had a big night, scoring 3 of our goals and assisting on one. Several times she was robbed by good p]ays by Ajax goalie. Shannon Fox turned in one of her better games with 2 goals, as did Lyndsay with 2 goals and one assist. One of our new arrivals, Meagan, picked up an unassisted goal and assisted on two and Kim MACKEY, BAILEY & KORB BARRISTERS & SOLICITORS Saturday Mornings - 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon Lake Scugog Lumber Building Oshawa Rd., PORT PERRY 985-1391 Picture Perfect TELEVISION SERVICE "We service All Makes of T.V,, VCR & Home Audio Componénts." Tanya Towns also checked hard throughout the game. One thing that was evident, was the fact that some girls were tired and sluggish, as their parents had forced them to stay up until 5:00 a.m. that morning. Come on parents - show some concern and don't be so hard on the ladies. Our next game is Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in Pickering.
