Fast in the pool Two Scugog Township youths recently won ribbons at the Coca Cola McMaster Invitation- al Swim Meet. Laura Mark and Jeff Postma are members of the Uxbridge Swim Club. At the meet, Laura won one second-place ribbon and three third-place ribbons while Jeff recieved one second- and one third-place ribbon. The meet was held Oct. 21-22 at McMaster University in Hamilton. About 180 swimmers participated in the three team event. Thirty-one USC mem- bers competed against swim- mers from the Hamilton and Burlington clubs. According to USC public rela- tions representative Nancy Hannah, the local swim club is "really growing." The club is approximately 70 members strong, with 12 of those members from the Scugog Township area. The Coca Cola McMaster In- vitational was the first meet of the season for the USC. Uxbridge-area swimmer Kel- ly Bryon led the way for the team, capturing two first-place medals, one second-place rib- bon and four third-place rib- bons. The team moved up to AAA status last season and will host a meet at that level Nov. 11-12 at Uxpool. Mens hockey The first game of the day saw Blanchard's defeat Larocque Electric 5-1. Capitalizing for Blanchard's were Dan Horner with 2 goals with one on the powerplay, Dave Dickson 2 goals, and Dan Carty one. Adding assists were Mike Driscoll with 3, John Kotarba 2, Terry Bacall, Ivan Geer, Richie LeFort, and Jim Duncan all with one. The lone marker for Larocque was Ed Olsen from Larry Jackson and Reg McIntyre. Game two was a tight knit bat- tle in which Sportsland prevailed over Andersons by a score of 4-3. Counting for Sportland were Fred Moffatt 2 goals, Randy Pro- sser, and Wayne Taylor one apiece. Helpers went to Ray Zaparaniuk 2, Ken Smart, Bob Beveridge, and Rob Evans. Fighting back for Andersons were Larry Pilkey 1 goal, 2 assists, Doug Bronson 1 goal, 1 assist, and Rob Kroonenberg 1 goal. Colin Asselstine and Lee Steeves had 1 assist each. In the third game Compton battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie Norton's 3-3. Tallying for Compton were Carl Durward 2 goals, 1 assist, Ron Hoogeboom 1 goal, 1 assist, Jim Beatty 3 assists, and Wayne Fox 1 assist. Scorers for Norton's were Terry Rose with 2 and Bill Van Camp 1. Assisting were Brian Samis, Mark Jobb, Mark Burger and Reg Templeman. The fourth game was a one sid- ed affair that saw J&D easily defeat Crandell's 6-1. Scoring for J&D were Dale Bronson with the "'hat trick," Bill Bridge 2 goals, 1 assist, and Kel- ly Lee one. Adding assists were Joe Curran 3, Dennis Lycett 3, and Doug Brown 2. The lone marker for Crandell's was Rick Hope from Gary Lance and Bart Wagar. John Moore played a fine game in net for J&D while substituting for Bob Strickert.
