In turn- ing over the donation to the library, Mr. Willlams said the Club wants the money used to purchase books and periodicals about wildlife, conservation and environmental issues. The Scugog Memorial Library welcomes donations such as these from clubs and organiza- tions ear-marked specifically for the purchase of books. Obituary Gladys Irene Scott Gladys Irene Scott, passed away, at the Port Perry Com- munity Hospital, on Thursday Oc- tober 5, in her 89th year after a short illness. She was the only daughter of Sarah Hubbard and James Har- rison, born in the Myrtle area in 1901. She married Herbert Roy Scott, November 11, 1920. They resided at Seagrave, where they farmed for many years. They retired in the late sixties and moved into the village, where they lived until her husbands death in 1974. She spent her last years in Port Perry at Rosa St. Senior Apts. and The Villa. Gladys was a faithfull com- munity worker. She was a member of Seagrave United Church, where she served as organist and.choir leader for 16 years, she was also a willing worker for the U.C.W.. She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, Ken of Oakwood, and Bev. of Cameron, three daughters-in-law, 12 grand- children and 12 great- grandchildren, also a sister-in- law, Ombra Clarke and several Manchester UCW holds meeting The Manchester United Church Women held their monthly meeting at the church on Thurs- day, October 5, at 2 p.m. Our president, Diane McKinzey, opened the meeting with a meditation entitled "Choosing to Give Thanks" bas- ed on 1 Thess. 5:18, followed by prayer. Eileen Tapscott was in charge of the devotions, basing her theme around Thanksgiving Day. Irene Lamb read the scripture lesson from Psalm 100 and 107. Two readings "Things We Should Be Thankful For' and "The Everlasting Values of Family," helped us to focus on the real meaning of Thanksgiving. Devo- tions closed with prayer. The business meeting followed in which plans were made for 6 of our members to attend the Oshawa Presbyterial Regional Meeting at the new Pickering United Church on Wednesday, Oc- tober 11, with dinner and tour commencing at 5:30 p.m. The day meeting was held at Tyrone United Church on Thursday, Oc- tober 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The theme for both meetings was "Come Let Us Sing," with guest, Lynda Jewell. Many Jack Frost items were collected at these 2 meetings, as well as eyeglasses, hearing aids, Campbell Soup Labels, used Postage Stamps and the fronts of greeting cards. We decided to cater to the Pork Producers noon hour dinner on Thursday, November 23, at the Manchester Community Centre. As two of our members will be attending the Bay of Quinte con- ference U.C.W. Mid-Week event on November 1, and 2, it was decided to change the date of our November U.C.W. meeting to Thursday, November 9th, at 2 p.m. The 2 U.C.W.'s on the Island are invited to join us as Shelley Wright of Oshawa will be our guest speaker informing us about 'Horizons of Friendship."
