What started out like any other Sunday morning for Jack Kane, abruptly thangs when he found the skeletal remains ofabody lyingin a field along side Ghost Road. Mr. Kane, who lives on the 10th concession of Scugog Is- land headed out early last Sunday morning to collect bottles along the road. It was a ritual he performed almost every weekend. About 7:00 a.m., half a mile south of the 10th, he noticed a bottle in a field on the west side of the road. Although he knew it wasn't a beer bottle, he walked through the grass and kicked it into the ditch. As he was making his way back through the long grass to the ditch, out of the the corner of his eye he noticed what ap- peared tobe a pair of running shoes. Moving closer to inspect what he had seen, he noticed a pair and blue jeans, and what appeared to be the upper part ofthe skeleton of a person. He told the Star in an interview shortly after discovering the body, that at first he wasn't sure if it was a body, or if someone was playing a Hallowe'en prank, which is not un- . common along Ghost Road. With his mind yet unsure of what he had seen, he headed | south along the 10th again looking for more bottles. Still try- ing to convirice himself that he had seen a body, Jack re- turned to the scene to confirm his finding. When he was convinced it was a decomposed body, he headed for home, where he told his wife Aileen what he had seen, and asked her to call the police. Later that morning, Durham Regional Police Sgt. George Scott, of 26 Division arrived at the Kane's home and request- ed Jack show him where he had seen the body. When speaking with the Star, Mr. Kane said that he had ! beenin the field on a number of occasion over the past month, but had never seen the body. "I thought I saw something white in there one time, but I knew it wasn't a bottle, so I didn'tinvestigate what it was", he said. Mr. Kane said that the Ghost Road is a real dumping " ground for garbage. "You just never really know what you'll nd along those ditches", he said. The Durham Regional Police Mobile Command Vehicle ar- rived on the scene about 10:15 a.m., to assist Detectives Tom Chambers and Rod Mac Donald investigate the finding. Ghost Road was blocked off to local traffic from both the north and south during the investigation. FENELON FALLS Hundreds of beautiful, quality (gel range of colours.
