Taxpayers organize action group fo oppose exessive tax increases Concerned Seung Township property owners and taxpayers, have organized an action group to investigate and oppose the ex- cessively high 1989 tax increases in our township. | The committee members of this group, known as "CITIZENS AGAINST UNJUSTIFIED TAX- ES", feel that it is necessary to canvas Scugog Township with a petition to present to council stating our opposition to the un- justified increase of 14.8% in mu- nicipal taxes and also to enforce our proposal of limiting munici- .pal tax increases to the current rate of inflation. It is essential that we present our objections to council before the 1990 Scugog Township, Re- gion of Durham, Region of Dur- ham RCSS Board and Durham Board of Education budgets are set. These budgets will have a dramatic effect on our 1990 tax bills. It should be the responsibility of our local municipal represen- tatives to acknowledge our con- cerns over these extreme tax in- creases and to hold the line on spending. Major expenditures that are currently under discussion are the proposed new sports and rec- reation complex to be built in Port Perry; extended waterfront development in Port Perry; and the construction of a new munic- ipal build ing in Port Perry. "Citizens Against Unjusti- fied Taxes" is a people group and we require your support to make our objective of halt- ing the unjustified increases in taxes work in Scugog Township. We are soliciting for members for "Citizens Against Unjustified Taxes" to increase our numbers and GUARANTEED INVESTMENT Annual Rates make this a viable campaign when confronting Scugog Township Council. A $3.00 membership fee is to cover advertising and printing costs. C.A.U.T. is a non-profit or- ganization.
