22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 14, 1989 Cureatz guest speaker at PC general meeting Sam Cureatz, M.P.P. for Dur- ham East was the keynote speaker at the Durham East Progressive Conservative Asso- ciation's general meeting, held in Port Perry. Mr. Cureatz talked of the lat- est events in Queen's Park, and the riding's financial status toa crowded room at the Railroad- House Motel. He also reflected on the last outcome of the Sunday shop- ping issue, and stated that his riding will be in good form , and i should have $10,000 by the New Year. Major topics Cureatz raise were that of the new insurance legislation, and Bill119(Lottery Bill). The new insurance legisla- tionis tobe forwarded on Tues- day. He stated that it is a very controversial subject. He did not reflect on the particulars, but did say that lawyers may not be happy, as a partial no- fault plan has been installed. All he would say on this is that there will be a degree in which an injured person in an accident can receive. The re- covering of finances will be lim- ited. Mr. Cureatz also stated that the Liberals hope to have this passed six weeks before Christ- mas. . Lottery Bill(119) was also a hot topic in Queen's Park. The issue in this is that the pro- ceeds are to go to cultural, and recreational activities. Also a limited amount is wanted for general revenue funding for the 'hospital. The proceeds through Wintario go to recreational as- pects, such as parksetc. Mr. Cureatz also informed the audience that he would be taking on a new job. She spoke highly of Mr. Cureatz, and highly of the riding she was speaking to. "This riding is responsible for me being president of this par- ty," she stated. Festival deadline nears The Sunderland Lions Music Festival Committee has been busily preparing for its 33rd an- nual festival which will be held on February 12 to the 23, 1990. The festival provides an opportunity for musicians in the Brock, Scugog, Uxbridge, Mariposa, Eldon and former Georgina Township areas to perform publicly and receive professional adjudication. She was a member of the Bowmanville High School Con- cert Band and Woodwind En- semble. Tracey has also re- ceived her Grade 8 Royal Conservatory of Musicin piano. Her other interests include drama, 4-H, and politics.
