It was their first tournament of the year, and although they only picked up one tie, they never look- ed out-classed. The first game was on Tuesday against Pickering, and as usual, we had a tough game but came up on the short end of a 3-1 score. Kim Poppleton was able to set up Michelle Fitzpatrick for our only goal. On Friday evening, we had our {oughest game which was against llard, which is near Montreal. We learned this was considered an "AA" team and the reason why. The girls were out-skated by a very fast club but still managed to keep the score respectable for most of the game, losing 10-4. Amy Parliament opened the scor- ing and assists went to Megan Marlowe and Lyndsay Dutkewich. Then Megan found a hole on a nice pass from Jennifer Morden, which provided us with a tied score at 2 each. This was only short-lived as Dollard answered 4 more times before the end of the first period and Port once with Megan getting an unassisted second goal. Karen Kett was able to put one more on the board in the second period and assists went to Kim and Any, Our third game on Saturday was against Nepean which is near Ottawa and we skated to a 2-all tie. This was a much faster game on our part, and the girls really poured on the coal. At the end of one period, we were down 2-1, with our only goal coming from Michelle Fitzpatrick and an assist going to Amy. With only 1:32 left in the game, Megan gave a fine pass to Tammy Pillman who was able to set up Karen Kett for the tying goal. Tracy Pelow really showed what she is made of, as she made stops that looked almost impossible. Well done Tracy. Our final game was against Dollard once again, and was a semi-final game at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday and we were only down 2-1 at the end of the first period. The girls knew that they would have tough game and played ex- ceptionally well, considering the hour of the day. As a matter of fact, most of them said they went to bed early so they would be ready. From everyones opinion, we outplayed Dollard but came up short on a 6-2 score. Karen Kett was the only one to beat the Dollards goalie, once with an assist going to Amy and once unassisted. Good job Karen. The Dollard goalie was very good, but not when compared to Tracy who gave us the support we needed. Several times she made unbelievable saves, even on breakaways. Special mention should also go Phone 985-8291 (Just off Rose St./Manchester) MENZIES CAR CARE & SALES COMPLETE RECONDITIONING also Waxing & Buffing Oilskin, No Drip Non-Toxic Rustproofing - USED VEHICLE SALES - * A reconditioned car adds "value" to your investment to our defense who really Showed their old style which has made them famous over the past years. Kim Poppleton, Tanya Towns, Jennifer Morden played very well to keep the scores close and cut down a lot of scoring chances. A new addition to this tough three-some, 'was Lyndsay Dutkewich, who fit in perfectly. Her style of tough checking was just what we needed. Our defense was mentioned by one of the Dollard Junior coaches after the game, and these girls should be proud of their accomplishments. Special attention was also paid to Amanda Webbs abilities, and the coaching staff noticed she is now coming around to be a tough checking and energetic skater. Several times she had good chances around the net. Lots of experience was gained by everyone and a good lesson was leared by coach Lloyd Morden and Tanya Towns, who learned that "you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool the referees at all." We won't try that again. Special mention goes to the - parents who made 4 trips to Scar- borough. What a great group. FREE PICK-UP AND DELIVERY area
