Press EN. TENS a I NI UI XI: [4 - 42 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 14, 1989 Food box forgotten Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader In spite of the weather change, there was a good attendance at the Scugog United Church. However, the "Food" box didn't look too full. People are forgetting that November is the allotted month for this church. There are many dates during November for meetings of the Scugog Pastoral Charge. Please refer to your Bulletin for November 15, 16, 19, & 30. The building of shelves is necessary for Christian Educa- tion resources. Please contact the minister 985-2385 on Wed. or leave message. The Christian Women's Club will meet at the Masonic Hall, Thurs. Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. not 9:30 p.m. As stated last week the "Head" U.C.W. will have their Mystery Sister Supper at Hank's Bake Shop, Wed. Nov. 22 not the 23rd. Please try to join in the spirit of the evening by wearing a Christmas Corsage. Last Wed. over 50 retired, women teachers enjoyed the usual November dinner at Sunderland. It was my pleasure to. meet Joanna (Rundle) Bagshaw who lives in Sunderland. She said the frame school at the Scugog Island Centre was her first:school in 1920 for 1 year. At this time she had 50 pupils in all grades. She boarded with Mr. gnd Mrs. Frank Gerrow. This is a long time ago PUBLIC NOTICE but there may be some of the readers who had her for their teacher and would be pleased to hear she has quite good health but is recovering from a broken hip. It was only a few years later that the Centre people were very proud of their new, brick school, considered quite modern in con- trast to the "Head" & "Foot." Now look at the fate of all three. Only the '"Head" which was remodelled uring the winter of 1928 & 29 has found a very historical and practical use, leav- ing behind the memories of scores of children. It was interesting, last week to see a letter from Orval Heayn of Victoria, B.C., a former pupil at the '"Head" School and later a resident with his wife Ruth and 2 sons who resided at the "Head" of the Island. They were fine citizens of the community and were missed when they all decid- ed to move west. The house on 7A highway formerly owned by the Manns family has recently been sold since Myrtle and Carl Gimblett moved to a Port Perry apartment. I think most of us are pleased to see 'Random Jottings' back in the paper. It is only natural that some items hold more interest for us than others, but we enjoy and respect the variety. ~purposes of § %40M-1439 Notice is hdfiab 'Municipal AgtH Township of. $¢ change the pg Wyldewood Colurt (Oak Hills E Regarding the proposal to change the name for identification ¥o small sections of Woodbridge Circle on Plan [Oak Hills Estates). ; given pursuant to the provisions of the that the Council of the Corporation of the jMgog proposes to pass a By-Law that would ne of two portions of Woodbridge Circle to and Wintergreen Court on Plan 40M-1430 8s), in the Township of Scugog, in the former I$ The Port Perry Blue Ray Chapter of the Sood Eastern Star has Installed a new slate of offl- cers for the coming year. Lending library The Scugog Toy Lending Library is off to a great start since its official opening on September 21. Our membership has grown, as has the enthusiasm and support of our members. We are currently concluding our first fundraiser involving our full membership. Through the selling of cheese we hope to raise addi- tional money for our library. We plan to expand on the toys in the library as our young members show us what are some of the most popular items. However, we can still use your help. The week of November 20-26 is Recycling Week. We ask you to take this oppor- tunity to recycle some of your old toys. Instead of throwing them away where they will only end up in an already overburdened dump site, why not recycle them into our Toy Library. Other children can then enjoy them as much as your children did. The Toy Library will be open for the recycling of toys during our operating hours on Thursday, November 23 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Port Perry United Church. Please drop off your us- ed toys at this time and help both your Toy Library and your environment! If this time is not convenient for you please call 985-9368 to make alternate arrangements. a i TT wl,
