YOUTH BOWLING COUNCIL The Executive and youth bowlers would like to thank Mr. Dean Hunter of Dean Hunter Mini Back Hoes for providing the float and transportation for the Santa Claus Parade on November 25. Without Mr. Hunter's contribu- tion we would not have been able to participate in our first year of operation. A big hand also goes to Carol Anthony, Director of Centennial Lanes for organizing the float and transportation and for all the work she did in getting things organized. She spent a great deal of time getting decora- tions together for the float and also making the lovely signs for the kids to carry. The "I Beat My Coach' tourna- ment was held on November 11 and I am thrilled to announce that all of the bowlers who par- ticipated beat a predetermined score and earned their badge. Congratulations to all and the badges will be handed out shorfly. New Midget B squad defeated 4-2 On Friday November 24, the Canadian Tire Midget B team played their first home game of the season in an exhibition match with Sunderland. The visiting team notched the first two goals of the game, The Port Perry players demonstrated good puck control and positional play and the pay off came when Gerry Stevens fired in a high riser from the slot assisted by Herb Hatch and Kevin Buscher. The Sunderland Harvesters had a full bench and tried to use this to their advantage when the limited number of Port players was further reduced when Jeff Labanovich suffered a shoulder injury and had to leave the ice. Up to that point he had been playing a great game as had Cole Parry and Scott Menzies who had earlier been ousted from the game. This was a very physio) game and it was necessary for the Canadian Tire Midgets to show Sunderland they could definitely not be intimidated. For over half the game the 6 skaters left on the home, team gave the fans a real show. These guys actually outplayed the whole team from Sunderland and are to be commended for the way they kept their heads and pushed their bodies to the limit. Brad Budge and Kevin Buscher on defense stopped the oppostition cold, time and again. David Volman demonstrated skill and determination playing both for- ward and defensive positions. The Canadian Tire team was robbed time and again by the Sunderland goalie Brian Madill. Gerry Stevens notched goal number two for the night on a nice assist by Herb Hatch bringing the - score to 3-2. Michael Butt playing on the wing worked the puck well and Herb Hatch played virtually every position with an all out effort. The final score of 4-2 for Sunderland did not reflect how close this game really was. Goalies Noel Lovering and Dereck Carter did a super job keeping the game in reach for their teammates. With any luck at all Port would have taken it. Luck or not, the Canadian Tire Midgets showed everybody in the arena they are a team.to be * reckoned with.
