The Port Perry High School Boy's Curling Team swept thelr way through six games in a weekend tournament in Port Perry, to reach the semi-finals of the B division. They lost their semi-final match to a tough team from Markham. The team Included Skip: Jason Guindon, Vice: Rob Mitchell(pictured), Second: John Rankin(pictured), and Lead: Kevin Martin. Counting for Compton were Carl Durward 4 goals, Wayne Fox 1 goal, 1 assist, Bob Stevens and Don MacDonald 1 goal each. Assists to Carl Fitzgerald 2, John Delorme, Ron Hoggeboom, Bob Lee, and Jim Beatty 1 a piece. Bill Van Camp had all 3 goals for Nortons in the losing cause. Assisting were Terry Rose and Donovan Smith each with 2, and Don Card one. The second game was a blow- out in which Andersons trounced first place Sportsland 9-2. Scoring for Andersons were Rob. Kroonenberg 2 goals, 2 assists, Ken Little 1 goal, 3 assists, Doug Suppelsa 2 goals, 1 assist, Jason Warner 1 goal, 2 assists, Doug Bronson 2 goals, and Colin Asselstine 1 goal, 2 assists. Picking up other assists were Lee Steeves 2, Al Bonner 2, and Terry Fleiler one. For Sportsland it was Rob Evans from Randy Prosser and Glen Hudson, and Wayne Taylor from Ray Zaparanuik and Rob Evans. Game three was a little closer as J & D Carpentry edged out Crandells 64. The fourth game saw Larocque Electric switch places with Crandells for the basement with a 5-1 win over Blanchards. Pineridge Sports Tweens met Manvers in Port Perry on Saturday night. These girls did not have much trouble with keeping the edge on this game as the score was 13-0. A nice shut-out for Sarah Coyne. Goals scored: Lisa Dodd 4 goals; 2 assists, Lisa Dodd 5 goals; 4 assists, Heather Lally 1 goal; 1 assist; Jean Templeman 1 goal; 1 assist, Kyla McCrae 1 goal; Vicki Stainton 1 goal; 1 assist. Playing for us was Shona Moase who played her usual great game. Second game was played in Oshawa against Oshawa. The score was 4-2. This game was the most exciting game of ringette this season. Although this team was a B team, that did not keep our girls from playing their best game of ringette. Sarah Coyne kept an very good eye on her net and played an ex- cellent game. Curling corner by Scott Howey The Port Perry team of Jack Owen, Ted Griffen, Bill Jennings, Bill Corbett and spare Garnet Warriner, played down in the Senior competition this past weekend at the Oshawa Golf Club. The team dropped to the B side after losing their opening game to Don Jenkins of the Oshawa Curl- ing Club. The foursome won their next three games defeating Rodgers of the host club, Bruno Lenarduzzi of Uxbridge and Mac Binnings of Whitby Curling Club. In the B side semi-final, the team dropped a 6-5 decision to Don Jenkins to be eliminated from the event. Good effort guys. This coming weekend is the Blue Light Tankard zone playdowns at the Unionville Curl- ing Club. Steve Foster's team of Ron Parish, Don Beaton and Ken Goreski and Scott Howey's team of Dave Roth, Bill Hutchinson, and Glen James will represent Port Perry. Also this weekend, Oshawa AN RX 22) Curling Club is hosting the Masters zone playdowns. The Port Perry rinks of Ted Griffen and Jim Davidson will Le taking Port in this competition.
