After a scramble out in front, Justin pushed the puck to Jason who put it behind the goalie. Half way through the second period, Jason passed it to Kevin Hobbs who scored on.a beautiful back hand. Less than a minute later Mike Morden "made it count' on a breakaway for Port's 4th goal. Assist to Bobby Cracknell. Justin Halligan on a breakaway put the puck nicely between the goalies legs. On a pass from Mike, Derek Leeming set the puck on the top shelf to finish the scoring. On the weekend, these guys shone in the Ennismore Tourna- ment. They outshot and outplayed their opponents in every game. They passed together, checked together, and scored a total of 35 goals while Paul Shrigley enjoyed 4 straight shutouts, giving him 7 shutouts in the last 7 ap- pearances. Tweens capture silver The past weekend saw Allens Siding Products Tweens take Ot- tawa by storm and through a storm. The girls and families travell- ed to Nepean, which is a suburb of Ottawa, for their annual tour- nament, and produced some very positive results. This was our first time to enter the Nepean tourna- ment and we came away with 2nd place out of 5 teams and a lot of encouragement for the future. After a Friday evening of hav- ing the entire game of ringette 'disected and dismembered, and numerous opinions thrown around about what is right and what is wrong with the team, we headed through a storm for our first game at 8:30 against North Bay. We started slow and after one period we were down 2-0. All engines then shifted from parkto 1st gear and we came away with a 3-2 victory. We then went to a different arena for 2:00 p.m. and met the home town club, Nepean for a match, and lead 2-0 after one period and came away 5-1. win- ners at the end. The storm kept getting worse, but the girls kept getting better, and at 7:00 p.m. we met the representative from the nations capital. Ottawa tried to throw us off somewhat, by having the tour- nament committee get us to change our sweaters, stating the colours were too similar. We graciously agreed to the re- quest and responded by trouncing them 10-4. This win assured us ot being in the final on Sunday. The game also saw a few in- juries to Tanya Towns and Jen- nifer Morder, which kept Tanya out for balance of that game with a sore knee. Fortunately for us, ice packs and rest brought he back for Sunday morning when we played our final round-robin game against Markham. The storm was worse by Sun- day morning, and unfortunately so were we for the first period, and ended it down 5-2. We chang- ed gears in the second period and kept Markham scoreless and answered with one more ourselves, to end it 5-3. This set the stage for an ex- citing 'championship game against Markham at 1:00 p.m. Unfortunately, two referees thought different and called the most minor of infractions, which saw us take 8 ties in the first * period and Markham 2, and the score was 2-0 for Markham. Regrouping took place at half- time and the referees called 6 penalties against Markham and 2 against us. Markham made it 3-0 before our girls finally got in the scoreboard, then Marham made it 4-1. We took advantage of every. power play opportunity and came back and tied the game at 4 each with 7:28 left in the game. Three minutes later we got our 2 penalties within seconds of each other but still managed to kill off the penalties. With 1:03 left in the game, Markham got the winner and despite hard work on our power play, with Markham 2 ment short we couldn't beat their goal tender. A post-game discussion by management, left us in agree- ment that our girls were still the best on the ice. This weekend saw a lot of good signs. Tracy Pelow had a great weekend, allowing 3.4 goals per game. Good job Tracy. She had a lot of help from 3 outstanding defencemen, Kim Poppleton, Tanya Towns and Jennifer Morden. During all of our games, we never saw any defensive work better than these girls displayed. They were assisted by some fine checking by Shannon Fox and Amy Parliament. Good work you two. Another big plus was great backchecking and forechecking by Amanda Webb, Megan Marlowe, Tammy Pillman, Karen Kett and Michelle Fitz- patrick. These girls were great and never gave up until they gain- ed possession. Good job girls. Another big motivator was Mr. ¢ Kett, who filled in for the absent Mr. Fox, who had to work and babysit 3 kids. Thanks for your help Don, and thank you to Marg Pelow for helping on the bench as well. The scoring totals were as follows: Amy Parliament 8 goals, 5 assists, Shannon Fox 6 goals, 1 assist, Megan Marlowe 4 goals, 5 assists, Karen Kett 4 goals, 3 assists, Michelle Fitzpatrick 3 goals, 2 assists, Amanda Webb 1 goal, 2 assists, Tammy Pillman 1 goal (her first, good girl) 4 assists, Kim Poppleton 3 assists, Tanya Towns 2 assists and Jen- nifer Morden 4 assists. Floor hockey Junior In Junior Floor Hockey action played at Immaculate Conception in Port Perry on Monday November 27, the Red Wings defeated the Blue Jays by a 11 to 6 margin. The Red Wings poured in on early and lead by a 6-1 score by the end of the first period. Scor- ing for the Wings were Chris Langford with 3 goals, Daryl Dalton with 2 goals and Chris Murphy with one. Jeff Neal scored the lone Blue Jay goal. The second period was a lot closer as both teams scored 4 a times as the Red Wings held on to a 10-5 lead. Justin Kowalczyk got 3 goals for the Blue Jays and Evan Bertrand scored once. Scott Brownson and Joey Drebit both scored twice for the Red Wings in this period. Both teams scored just once in the third period. Chris Murph got the Red Wing goal while Jeff Neal scored for the Blue Jays. Congratulations to the Red Wings on a well deserved 11-6 vic- tory.
