For the first half, the girls looked like old age had set in but they still managed to keep the score even at 3 each. With 2:54 left in the game, Mississauga went ahead by one and it looked like we had lost this one, until Amy Parlia- ment tied it again with 3 seconds left oh the clock. On Sunday, the Siders headed back to the west end of Toronto to play the squad from Etobicoke. This was the first time that 10 grandmothers have ever taken to the ice to represent our team. All of our defence was brought for- ward, and some of the forwards filled in on defence and did an ex- cellent job, and we thank them. Fortunately for us Tracy Pelow came ready to play and kept Etobicoke down to 3 goals in the first half and none in the second. After 14 minutes, the girls final- ly got rid of their canes and wheelchairs, and started to look like the team from days gone by. Karen Kett proved that her hair isn't gray, as she netted the first goal with one minute left, after 2 good passes from Kim Poppleton and Jennifer Morden. Karen also scored 2 more goals later. That was our only marker, but in the second period, it was all Ports game as the girls answered with 8 more. Then, one of the hardest body checks ever handed out, went to Michelle, who got flattened by her own teammate, "Jennifer the " Bulldozer." Jen - no body contact in Petites prevail On Sunday, the team from Bob- caygeon travelled to Port Perry to play a league game against the Bruton's IDA Petite team. The visiting team was small in' numbers and small in stature, but they came out skating with deter- mination. They scored the. first goal after only four minutes of play, and that was when our Port girls decided to get serious. The coaches, Dan Harris, Steve Payne, and Doug Anderson had a game plan devised which involv- ed switching many of the players from their regular positions. This ~ plan obviously was a good one, as the home team scored the next 9 unanswered goals. With Katie Senyk in net, Shona Moase played out and scored three goals. Cindy Verschurren and Cara Vander Slagt each scored twice, and Melissa Dawson and Jenny Storms each netted one. Just as important were the girls who set up these goals, and assists went to Sheila Ranger and Brandy Harris with three each, Lynda Payne with two, and Joan Anderson, Mandy Smart, Melissa D., Jenny and Cara each with one assist. Friday night, these guys travelled to Cobourg and came out victorious in league action 5-4. We are trying to pick up some extra ice time to accom- modate both and should know soon 4-0. - Game No.2, they played St. John's. They had lost to this team in the Oakwood Tournamert but with the direction of three great coaches these guys have learned a lot. They beat this team, this time, 6-0. They passed and played together for 3 periods. Derek Leeming played a strong game with 2 big goals. Assists to Mike Morden and Kevin Cochrane. At noon on Sunday, Jason Hopkins, Chris Drury and Paul Shrigley participated in the Golden Stick shoot out and all did very well and showed good sportsmanship, Port played their third game against Oakwood. Port held them at 2-1 until the end of the second period. Port's goal was scored by Matt Phillips on a great back hand from out in front. In the third period, Oakwood pulled ahead 5-1 until 3 seconds left in the game, when Kevin Hobbs checked the defense and went in to deke the goalie scoring Port's second goal. Curling corner by Scott Howey This. past weekend the Blue Light Tankard zone playdowns were held at the Unionville C.C. The Port Perry team of Scott Howey, Dave Roth, Bill Hutchin- son and Glen James lost their first game to Murray Miller of Oshawa C.C. to drop into the B side. They came back to defeat Shaw of Oshawa C.C., Gary Grant, Ux- bridge, Clare Robinson, Oshawa C.C., Ron Allison, Whitby and Doug Freeman, Oshawa C.C. to advance to the B side final. The final game saw the Port Perry foursome defeated by Greg Nelson of Unionville. C Division The Scala Pee Wees were entered in the Oakwood Pee Wee tournament on the weekend. Their first game was played Friday night in Cannington against the St. Annes B team from Peterborough. Scala won this one 4 - 2 on a strong team ef- fort.
