After trailing for most of the game the Port Perry High School Boys Junior Basketball team rallied to come out on top of a 50-40 decision, in league playlast Thursday. The visiting Central Chiefs stayed one step ahead of the Rebels in the first quarter, end- ingit witha 9-5lead. The Chiefs continued their strong play into the second quarter, matching the Port team point for point. At the end of the first half the Chiefs still led by a four point margin. Both teams showed strong of- fensive and defensive play, which was reflected by the close score, The third quarter showed the Rebels pull a little closer to evening up the deficit. In the final quarter, the Port Perry Rebels took control of the play in their own end, to ed them on to victory. The Rebels strong "zone" defence terminat- ed many Chief's attempts to re- gain the lead. Port went on to defeat the visiting team 50-40, Top scorers for Port were Mark Schwann with 12 points, Jason McBride with 9, and Todd Taylor, and Steve Laird both with 4 points each, Bantams cruise fo 9-3 victory The Sportsland Bantams played the last game before Christmas in Omemee on December 19. This was a rough penalty filled game with Port win- ning handily by the score of 9-3. Jeff Card led the way with 3 goals with Aron Royle and Sean McEnaney each scoring twice.' Steve Desautels helped out with 1, goal and one assist while Chad Garvock picked up 1 goal and 2 assists. Scott Wylie acted as the playmaker on this night with 4 assists. : Lindsay Parry also played a strong game picking up 2 assists, while Chris MacLoed, Ryan Picard, Noah St. Amond, Todd Smart, Peter King and Mike Slug- gett all pitched in with one assist. The boys next league game is at home on Wednesday January 3 at 7:40 against a very strong Peter- borough club. But before this the boys travel to Uxbridge on December 27 for a tournament. He sure was to the Goreski Insulation Hockey Team as he donated 2 beautiful wins to them last Sunday and Monday Dec. 17 and 18, were these a couple of beauties! Larocque and Hutchinson were glad to see the return of the ever so popular goaltending coach of the Insulators -- Nicholishen or Saint "Nick." The goaltenders would be in the game for sure as "Nicholas" always gives them pep talks before each encounter. Lovely! Blades and the Boys travelled to Port Hope Sunday evening to compete against a Port Hope squad who were hoping for a win but didn't get it as Port Perry that is, whipped the Hopers 6-2. Beauty! Right from the opening face off there was a dark, cumulo nimbus cloud overhead of Port Hope's jerseys. Following this was thunder and lightening, topped off with a little hail and a saturated net. Port came out flying in this one and never looked back as they scored 6 - countem - 6 goals. Hutchinson got the call to play between the pipes and got an ear- ly Christmas present. Good, game Ricky. This again is the kind of game that Coach Wilbur (Blades) loves as his squad came out hard, disciplined and with fire in their eyes. Port Perry only took 5 minor penalties in this game and we'll tell ya folks, if Port keeps this up they'll go along way, it's guaranteed. , So here are the goal getters for this game. The thing that Port is doing bet- ter is the play in their own end, you know the breakout pattern and take-outs along the boards (playing it tough in other words.) Blades could imagine he was being a good boy so he Turkey The last day to submit applica- tions to the Ministry of Natural Resources (M.N.R.) for the 1990 wild turkey hunts is January 10, 1990. "Sportsmen have ten wildlife management units to choose from when applying for the hunts, which is four more units than in 1989," says Dr. Terry Quinney, Provincial Coordinator of Fish and Wildlife Services for the On- tario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.). The hunts are scheduled for the first two weeks of May in the areas of Trenton-Belleville; Cambridge; Lindsay-Peterborough; the Niagara Peninsula; Barrie- Alliston and Simcoe. All hunter selected in the ran- dom draw for 4,000 validation tags must attend, or have previously attended, a wild turkey hunter education seminar sponsored by the O.F.A.H. In just five years the provincial wild turkey population Port will be missing an amigo in this one as, Mr. J. Cochrane will be sunning his buns in Florida for 10 days. Port will tan somebody else's hide in their tour- nament over the holidays as they are starting to play great has grown to between 5,000 and 8.000 birds. Applications for the 1990 hunts are available from the Ministry of Natural Resources offices in Lindsay, Napanee, Midhurst, Cambridge, Fonthill and Simcoe.
