BE TE TE TE _-- 24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, December 28, 1989 Boxing Day 'battles' in Scugog Mens League Game one was a quick paced battle in which J & D squeezed past Norton's 3-2. Scoring for J & D were Ron Jef- frey, Bob Tarbotton, and Bill Owen. Assisting were Bill Bridge, Doug Brown, Dennis Lycett and Dale Bronson. Fighting back for Nortons were Dave Roth unassisted and Bill Van Camp from Dave Roth and John Woodward. The second game was a mirror image of the first as Andersons edged out Blanchards 3-2. Driving it home for Andersons were Ken Little 1 goal, 1 assist, Doug Bronson and Jason Warner 1 goal each. Assists to Larry Pilkey 2, Rob Kroonenberg 2. 'Counting for Blanchards were Keijo Kinnunen from Dan Horner and Ken Davison, and Dan Horner from Keijo Kinnunen and Mike Driscoll. Game three was an exciting fast paced one in which Compton and Crandells battled to a 1-1 tie. Scoring for Compton was John Delorme from Ron Compton. The lone marker for Crandells was Rick Olaisen from Gary Lance and Bart Wager, late in the contest. In game four first place Sport- sland had their hands full and just managed to squeeze past Laroc- que 2-1. Tallying for Sportsland was Brad Hurst with both goals and assists going to Larry Page, Ray Zaparanuik, Rob Evans and Wayne Taylor. The lone marker for Larocque was Kevin Trapp from Glen McCoy and Bill Haynes. CHRISTMAS EVE SHOWDOWN * The first game on .this Christmas Eve was a tight battle in which Andersons edged out Nortons 4-3. Scoring for Andersons were Doug Suppelsa 2 goals, Sean Ken- ny and Terry Flieler one each. Assisting were Doug Bronson 4, Jason Warner 2, Chris Brain and Ken Little one each. Tallying for Nortons were Bill Van Camp 2 goals, Brian Samis 1 goal, 2 assists, Mark Burger and John Woodward 1 assist each. In the second game Sportsland easily handled Compton ending in a 6-3 win. Filling the net for Sportsland were Bob Beveridge with the 'Hat Trick," Rob Evans 2, and Dave Harrison 1 goal, 1 assist. Assists to Randy Prosser 3, Glen Hudson 3, Bob McEachern 2, and Wayne Taylor one. Counting for Compton were Carl Fitzgerald 2 goals, 1 assist, Jim Beatty 1 goal, 1 assist, Wayne Fox 2 assists and Dave Mann one. Game three saw J & D edge out Blanchards by a 5-3 score. Scorers for J & D were Bill Bridge 2 goals, Bill Owen 1 goal, 1 assist, Dave Milton and Ron Jef- frey 1 goal a piece. Assisting were Dennis Lycett 2, Kelly Lee and Tom Patton each with one. Marking for Blanchards were Dan Horner 2 goals, Mike Driscoll 1 goal, 1 assist, Keijo Kinnunen 2 assists, Jim Duncan and Bruce Smith one a piece. In game four Larocque scored five straight goals to defeat Crandells 5-1 and win their 4th game in a row. Scoring for Larocque were Peter Lane 2 goals, Wayne Nor- ton, Glen McCoy and Rick Camp- bell all with one goal each. Help- ing out were "Doc" Thomson 2 assists, Brian Callery, Kevin Reid. and Paul Van Camp each with one. Senior boys off to quick start The first 3 weeks of the 1989/90 P.P.H.S. senior boys basketball season, has started off with great success. Our boys, the mighty Rebels, are looking forward to be- ing on top of the league, with a great offence and defence. The senior boys have brought eight wins on the road to hold themselves as great competitors for LOSSA and DYSSA. While injuries have handicap- ped our forwards, the boys have won a tournament in Lindsay and became finalists in the Brock In- vitational. Port has only played one league name with a convinc- ing score of 76-52. We are counting on our Rebels, lead by J. D. Rodway, Mike Kosurko, Kris Lavereau, Phil McBride, Anil Maharaj, Jim Dex- ter, Shawn Phillips, Chris Cooper, Chris Smith, Tyler Zenon, Mike Smith and injury plagued Paul Wylie to continue their winning streak. In exhibition play, Port has defeated two, Tier One teams: McLaughlin and Dunbarton High Schools. Respectively 64-49 and 63-56. Atom HL results Gord Lewis 7 Lake Scugog Lumber 3 Gord Lewis played a strong game jumping into a 2-0 lead before letting Lake Scugog score 3 times in a row to take the lead. Gord Lewis then tied up the game with the sixth goal, scored in the first period. They never looked back from this point and skated to the win. Matt Grills led the way wiih 4 goals with Jeremy Gibson scunig 3 times. Matt Baxter picked up 2 assists with one each going to Gavin Baxter and Jeremy Gibson. Chris Wootton replied twice for Lake Scugog e Aron Levy scored their other goal. Kevin Hill, Steve Elliott, Chris Jamieson and Aron Levy all picked up one assists. Tripp Realty 6 Whitby Auto Wreckers 2 Tripp took control of this game early and never gave Whitby a chance to get into the flow. Jay Fletcher led the way with 3 goals and one assist. Jeff Whit- field had a big day with 2 goals and one assist while John Sax scored Tripps other goal. Jamie Trick also chipped in with an assist, Phil Donnelly scored both of Whitby's goals with Paul Shrigley and Jeff Gunn each picking up one assist, The action around the goal was fast and fur Richard Huggins for Crandells played superbly in the nets. lous Boxing Day as Compton battled Cran- dells in Scugog Mens League play. This game ended in a 1-1 deadlock after Crandell's net- ted the tying marker with 28 seconds left on the clock. Merle Schewaga for Compton and Actually, Compton had a great chance to put the game on ice when Carl Fitzgerald broke down the left side and had a va- cant net staring him In the face. But his shot from just over the blue line missed the goal, and Crandells came back up ice to pop the equalizer. (see article for details of the League action played over the Christmas break) Local Bantam HL action Causeway Esso 3 Swamp Auto 3 Tuesday, 19th, saw Causeway and Swamp play to a 3 all tie. The game was well played until the third period when tempers flared a little in a very close game. The first period was scoreless with both Greg Rankin and Mike Tripp playing well to hold the scorers at bay. With thirty seconds remaining in the second _ period Kevin Brown gave Swamp a one goal lead scoring 'unassisted. Midway through the third, Mike Bardeleben put Swamp up by two taking a pass from Kelly Dyer and banging it home. ) Causeway notched three quick goals within a minute to take a one goal lead. Scoring were Mike Bardeleben, John Woodward and Kelly Dyer on a power play. With less than a minute remain- ing in the game and both sides playing four a side Kevin Pearce tied the score on a pass from Mike Bardeleben. Causeway Esso 3 I.G.A. 2 On Wednesday, 20th, Causeway edged I.G.A. in a sea-saw battle. Both teams played good team ef- forts with both Greg Rankin and Rob Ashton turning good efforts between the pipes. The teams were just underway when John Rolston took a pass from Todd Taylor and slipped the pass behind the goaltender. With less than three minutes remain- ing in the first period Shawn Laro- que tied the score on a solo effort. There were only seconds re- maining in the second when An- drew Pereman gave Causeway the lead again. At the five minute mark of the third, Billy Sandiford scored on a solo effort while his team were playing short handed to tie the score. With three minutes re- maining Andrew Pereman notch- ed the winner for Causeway on a pass from Troy Hope. Emmerson Insurance 6 Frank Real Estate 0 On Saturday morning, Emmer- son skated to an easy 6 nothing victory over Frank in a clean game that saw only one minor Ity. Daryl Alexander turned ppd Sime scoring a hat- trick and adding as assist. At the end of the first period Emmerson were up by a score of three on markers by Kent Jamieson banging home a re- bound in front, Nathan Brown on a screened shot from the blue line and Daryl Alexander from a mix- up in front of the net. Daryl not- ched two more, one in the second and one in the third with Vince Criscione picking up the assists on both goals. Scott MacLennan clos- ed out the scoring taking a nice pass from Kent Jamieson. Novice League Re/Max 7 Van Camp 1 The first game of the day saw Re/Max and Van Camp clash in a good fast, action packed game. Re/Max opened the scoring on a goal by Scott Cunningham, Assisted by Wyatt Park and Scott Willman. Sean Fletcher made the score 2-0 for Re/Max with 1:53 left in the first period from a nice pass by Justin Sheehey. . At the 7:59 mark of the second period Jamie Clarke scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 2-1 for Re/Max. One minute later Re/Max put the game out of reach with 5 unanswered goals. Also scoring was David Gainey assisted by Justin Sheehey. Scott Cunningham scored assisted by Wyatt Park. Justin Sheehey scored assisted by Sean Fletcher and Wyatt Park. David Gainey scored assisted by Justin Sheehey and David Gainey completed his "Hat Trick" assisted by Justin Sheehey with his fourth assist of the game. Playing in goal for Re/Max was Bob Cowie and Aaron Chambers played in goal for Van Camp. Davids 3 Port Perry Printing 2 The second game of the day saw Davids Hairstyling and the Port Perry Printers tangle in one of their "Barn Burners." The end to end rushes and excellent stick handling was skillfully done.. Both offences kept hammering the puck at the goalies, but they kept coming up empty time and time again. As many times as the Printers would move the puck around for a good chance at a goal, the goalie for Davids would shut them down. Both goalies, both teams did themselves "'pro- ud" in this game of Hockey The Way It Used To Be Played. After the game both coaching staffs congratulated their teams on a good game. This was a good "Physical" game but a "Clean" game. Nice game guys. Scoring for Davids was Tyler Wootton, assisted by Brad Monsma and Tommy Baker. Chris Orr scored assisted by Scott Sanderson. Scott Sanderson scored assisted by Jay Crosier. In goal for Davids was Michael MacLennan. Scoring for Port Perry Printing was Tommy Keeble assisted by David Clouthier. Glenn McCready scored assisted by Mike Versage and Nick Pelyk. In goal for P.P.P. was Graham Strickert. Both goalies put on quite a show for the spectators, Points Re/Max Realty -- 15, Davids' Hairstyling -- 13, Van Camp Con- struction -- 4, Doors defeated 9-5 The Scugog Overhead Doors Pee Wee 2 team finished off '89 in a not so good way as they were defeated 9-5 by the team from Lindsay. Port did not have a full squad to play with as some have left ear- ly for Christmas vacation but one did return with very tanned legs. Welcome back Rick. Goals were scored by Kent Taylor and Ian Shrigley, 2 each and Sandy Mark 1. Assists went to Ian Shrigley, lan McCready and Mike Labanovich 2 each and 1 each for Sandy Mark and Jeremy See. Rok Sab A very spec you ta Hobbs for his gifts to the boys and to the coaches for their treats after the game.
