Bright idea Enough electricity to meet the peak needs of a town about the size of Frankford, Ontario (near Trenton) was saved in the first year of Ontario Hydro's energy efficient lighting program. To save that three megawatts of electricity, Hydro awarded $500,00 in incentives to lighting in- dustry contractors, manufac- turers and distributors who con- verted buildings to energy effi- cient lighting. Hydro marked the first year of its lighting program with 'Bright Lights," a November 20 reception of 150 lighting industry and utili- ty representatives at the Skydome in Toronto. 'Bright Lights" was held to thank par- ticipants and to encourage future i interest in the program. By the end of November, Hydro had received applications for energy efficient lighting projects which could save an additional 11 megawatts.
