Production problems at Con- naught Laboratories with its Salk inactiviated polio vaccine (IPV) -- the one Ontario has been using till now -- have led to growing ceed with no further disruptions." Sabin vaccine is already used by seven Canadian provinces, as well as throughout the United States. Details of Ontario's new im- munization schedule are as follows: Infants at two and four months of age will receive OPV and their usual DPT injections (multiple immunization against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus). At six PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, January 3, 1990 -- 5 months they will recieve a third DPT injection, but OPV may be omitted. At 18 months, and again bet- ween four and six years of age, children will receive OPV and fur- ther injections of DPT. Children between 14 and 16 years old, whose earlier im- munization against polio was with Salk IPV, will receive OPV along with their tetanus and diphtheria booster shot. Children on OPV from the start do not need a polio Oral vaccine to replace polio 'shot' booster at this age. Adults who have never been im- munized against polio will not receive OPV. For them, Salk IPV will still be used. This applies par- ticularly to previously unvac- ¢inated people with infants receiving OPV. Polio booster shots for adults . are only recommended for people at higher risk, such as health care and laboratory workers, or travellers to countries where polio is endemic. Certificates D.].
