The Provincial A Tween team, sponsored by Allens Siding Pro- ducts, started off 1990 on the right foot with a 3-3 tie against the gang from Pickering last Wednesday. Despite only having 9 players, the girls managed to hang in and at one point led 2-1. Tracy Pelow played an ex- cellent game and Pickerings top scorer had to be good to beat her on 2 occasions. She had some great help from Kim Poppleton and Jennifer Morden, who played 28 out of 30 minutes on defense and were outstanding. Karen Kett filled in for each of them when they took a break and she was unbeatable as well. Shannon Fox and Amy Parlia- ment gave the added strength Laroque Larocque Electric 4 Big V3 Big V opened the scoring on a nice goal by John Hall assisted by Jason Brain. There was good end to end rushing for the remainder of the first period but no more scoring. In the second period Greg Thompson scored a sizzler from Johnathan McCourt and Derek Anderson. The rest of the period belonged to Larocque as they rallied for the next three. Justin Wootton scored from Darren Kin- nunen, Matt Baker from Jeremy Stevens and Mike Wilson, Justin Wootton from Mike Wilson. Tammy Pillman, Amanda Webb and Michelle Fitzpatrick got lots of ice time in this one, which was our first game in quite a while. The Christmas break must have been good to Tammy as she played one of the strongest games so far, with many good chances around the net. Goals were netted by Karen, Amy and Michelle and assists to Amanda, Michelle, Tammy and Karen. We also had a fine even- ing in the sin bin, picking up 6 to Pickerings 3. It seems that an ag- gressive style of play will quite often led to this. Sunday, saw our last long trip to Barrie for a league game and and Emiels clinch ed the score as Derek Anderson scored from Greg Thompson. In the dying minutes of the period Larocque scored the go ahead goal as Justin Wootton popped his third for his hat-trick while David Kemp was given credit for setting it up. This was probably one of their better games of the year and the girls deserved their 3-2 victory. This game saw the return of their old friend Leea Kinnunen, who was invited un to round out the numbers. Leea fit in like a hand in a glove, and despite not playing with us for 2 years, she looked like she had been there all along. She filled in on defense, and then the wing and centre and was a great asset. Thanks Leea. Kim Poppleton did a great job helping Tracy to this win, and covered the front of the net like a blanket. It was also good to have our snow bunny Megan back in the line, direct from Vermont the target on a pass from Darryl Moase. Emiels were in control for the next two periods as they netted four. Shannon started us off right with the first 2 goals where she picked some corners that were unprotected. Megan and Jennifer set up both of these goals and the first was when we were short- handed. Barrie kept knocking on the door, but Tracy wouldn't open it and with 5:34 left in the game, Megan placed our 3rd goal in the net, after Karen did some hard work to beat their defensive unit. With 2:53 left, Tracy finally got beat on an easy shot that took a slight detour in its path. Then with 28 seconds left another hard shot beat, but that was the end of it. Throughout the entire game Tracy stopped a zillion shots, some coming on clear out breakaways. Good job Tracy. The girls are really looking good on the ice and they have picked a good time to start putting it all together, with our tourna- ment this weekend at home, 2 tournaments in Ottawa and Kit- chener the first of February, prelims coming up, league playoffs, and we certainly hope the Provincial championships in April. For an exciting hour of enter- tainment, be sure to come out and watch these girls this weekend.
