On Friday they visited the Powell's dairy farm where they made butter, made a "big book" of milk products, played the ice cream cone game and had a pup- pet show about teeth! In Bible, the kindergarteners have returned to the Old Testa- ment and are studying about Moses and the Exodus. Memory work for the next few weeks is Psalm 100. In math, the class has begun ad- dition, and is using objects to rein- force this concept (i.e. cookies, apples, toys). French continues to go well, with the class learning "Sur le pont d'avignon." The grades six, seven, and eight are starting two new units this year: a study of the book of John during Bible class, and a study of the Reformation in social studies class. Grades seven and eight are starting on the SRA Reading Kit; principal of Durham Christian High School in Bowmanville came and talked with the eighth graders about his school. It was an excellent opportunity for the students to ask questions and find out more about this Christian High School. On January 15, Scugog Chris- tian School began a "Partners in Excellence Reading Program hosted by the World Book Com- pany." Students get sponsors and read a certain number of books during the next seven weeks, and WorldBook contributes 50 percent to the funds that our students raise (50 cents for every $1.00). Our school will then have the op- portunity to purchase class en- cyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, etc. from the company at a reasonable price. What a wonder- ful way for our students to help build up the school's resources. Armour McMillan displays artwork at Scugog library The January meeting of Green- bank Institute will be held at the home of Mrs. Velma Foster on Jan. 24th at 2 p.m. The President of the Ontario Alzheimers Socie- ty will be our speaker. We wish we could reach other residents of Greenbank to come and learn more of this terrible affliction that touches so many of our families. Members try to bring a friend & neighbour. The Lake Scugog Historical Society presents Bill Lishman, talking about his video "Come On Geese" on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Latcham Centre in Port Perry. There has been a lot of interest shown in the Port Perry Scugog Library of Armour McMillan's display. We have heard wonder- ful compliments of this excellent show, especially the children have enjoyed it. Mr. McMillan has visited with many old and dear aquaintances that he has not seen in years. Congratulations Armour! This is our third and final call for new helpers on the Hall Com- mittee. The annual meeting is coming up on Thursday, January 25 at 8 p.m. at the'hall, and we're hoping to see some new faces there! If your family, like most in our community, enjoys hall- sponsored activities (baseball, dances, children's events, playground, tennis, etc.), maybe it's time for you to "lend a hand." Come to the meeting and find out how you can take part! The afternoon unit of Green- bank U.C.W. will meet at the church on Wednesday January 31 at 1:30 p.m. Margaret Couperthwaite and Robert attended the 90th birthday party for Mrs. Leslie Couper- thwaite on Saturday.
