Kent (Jan. 23). Ms. Kent owes her children the best education possible. But in order to attract and keep the best teachers the board needs to pay a competitive salary. Ms. K. must be living in a shell not to realize that there is a tremendous shor- tage of qualified teachers in On- tario. You only keep and attract the best in any field by providing incentives for people to stay. She may also be interested to know that the vast majority of Not this Doug Wilson To the Editor: Over the past months and in particular the last several weeks your paper has been favoured with many letters to the editor from a Mr. Doug Wilson, R.R. 2, Port Perry. While I fully endorse Mr. Wilson's right to have his own opinions and your papers right to provide a medium for him to air those opinions, I have become in- creasingly uncomfortable about the number of people who are at- tributing his letters to myself. Please be advised, I am not HE, teachers also live in modest houses and pay the same taxes. If she has the intelligence, dilligence, dedication and pa- tience, she too can join the "over- worked" teachers of Durham. I am certain, that should her children require extra help, coun- cilling, etc. etc., that she would be the first to request a teacher's assistance. Ms. Kent, your children are worth it and so are the teachers. Support them. W. Medford Scugog Township Babies not to blame To the Editor: In response to William Lishman's sermon, "The future of the planet earth." Of all the arguments concerning the abor- tion issue, pro or con, Mr. Lishman's diatribe, must be the most offensive I have ever read. I don't know if his thinking is just plain silly, or his head is still in the clouds with his geese. If Mr. Lishman could get his feet back on the ground, and did just a minimum of research, he would have found out that Canada's birth rate is in decline. I am sure we could find other things to blame our environmen- tal problems on, than new born babies. Pregnant women who are deciding if they want to terminate a pregnancy, or not, should be thinking about their own physical and spiritual well being. I am sure this planet will survive no matter what their decision. As for the planet, maybe Mr. Lishman could get rid of some, of that stuff he calls art, and plant some tree's in their place. At least, his time would be better spent, than sharing his silly ideas. Villy Karstulovich . R.R.5 Port Perry What a great town! To the Editor: What a great town! What nice people! Last Thursday I lost my credit cards at the I1.G.A., and didn't realize they were missing until one of the cashiers called to say someone had turned them in. I people are the best.
