This Is the first time since 1978 that a team from Port Perry has made it this far in competi- tion. The team defeated Newmarket in thelr first game 8-6, then went on to defeat O'Neill by a score of 6-3. This entitles them to go on to the OFSSA championships to be held in Col- lingwood on March 27-30. Pictured are(l-r) Jason Towns, vice, Jason Guindon, skip, lan Thompson, lead, and Rob Mitchell, second. } Pee Wees to host tourney The Scugog Overhead Doors Pee Wee 2 team played a suc- cessful exhibition game in Port Saturday night, against the Oshawa Red Wings. The first period was scoreless due to some hot goaltending from both teams. Kent Taylor scored YMCA It was a 9-9 tie between the Blue Jays and the Red Wings on Junior Floor Hockey action on Monday, Feb. 12. The Red Wings took the lead with a 1-0 score at the end of the 1st period. Aaron Chambers was the lone scorer in this period. The Red Wings maintained their lead in the second period with 4 more goals. Scorers for the Red Wings were Robbie Bredin, Scott Brownson, Darryl Dalton and Chris Murphy. The Blue Jays scored three goals in the second period, two by - Jeff Neal and one by Jevon Van Vliet. The third period brought 4 goals for the Red Wings, three by Rob- bie Bredin (giving him 4 goals for the evening)! and the other by Chris Langford. The Blue Jays played a strong third period with six goals scored, Atom H.L. Whitby Auto Wreckers 4 Tripp Realty 0 Whitby played a strong defen- sive game as they scored 3 goals in the second period to take con- trol of the game. Marc Versage led the way with 2 goals while Jeff Gunn and Phil Donnelly each picked 1 goal and 1 assist. Colin Laird also pitched in with an assist. Ryan Puckrin was sharp between the pipes stop- ping everything Tripp shot at him - to pick up the shutout. Gord Lewis 1' Scugog Lumber 0 This was a defensive battle all the way as the outcome was not decided until midway through the third period when Jay Strickert scored for Lewis on an unassisted effort. Ryan Diceman picked up the shutout for Lewis as he proved to be unbeatable on this day. Heather Tredway was almost as good between the pipes for Scugog as she was only beaten once. Ports first goal over a downed Oshawa gozlie on a play started by Rick Olaisen. Seven minutes later, Oshawa scored a sneaky one from behind to end the second period in a tie. Winning goal for Port was scored by Sandy (nice hair) Mark floor hockey three by Evan Bertrand and three by Jeff Neal (giving him 5 for the evening)! Good goaltending was shared with a low wrist shot to the glove side - assists went to Jeremy Geer and Brent Harper. This is the big weekend for the team, as we host the Pee Wee 2 tournament. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 20, 1990 -- 27 Re/Max shuts out Van Camp Const. 5-0 On Saturday Feb. 17 all Novice. players came to the rink a half hour early for individual pictures and then team photo's. After this they prepared for their respective House League Games. Davids Hairstyling 3 Port Perry Printing 2 Each time these two teams meet, the outcome is always a Barn Burner or Nail Biter. Both teams came out of their dressing rooms with only "Hockey" on their minds. In the first period, there wasn't any scoring. Port scored first at the 7:56 mark of the second period on a goal by Scott Harper on a neat feed pass by Adam Mahaffy. A minute and a half later, Davids tied the score at one on a goal by Tyler Wootton assisted by Chris Orr. At 2:33 of the second period, Port Perry Printing went ahead on a nice goal by Jeremy Heyworth assisted by Kam Cooper. Port kept the lead until the 3:10 mark of the third period when Davids tied the game at two all, on a goal by Tyler Wootton assisted by Adam Mahaffy. With 1:44 left in the game, Tyler Wootton completed his "hat trick" on an unassisted goal to put the game out of reach. The final score was Davids 3 - P.P.P. 2. Both goalies played a big part in keeping the score low, stopping countless point blank range shots and turning the 'Sharp Shooters" away empty handed. In goal for Davids was Scott Sanderson and Graham Strickert was in goal for Port Perry Prin- ting - the "Defending Novice House League Champions." Re/Max Realty 5 Van Camp Construction 0 The second game of the day saw Re/Max taking on Van Camp. The score 5-0 didn't in- dicate the play by a long shot. Both teams played some pretty good hockey in this one. Re/Max opened the scoring at 1:17 left in the first period on a goal by David Gainey assisted by Sean Fletcher and Daniel Lee. At 9:16 of the second period Wyatt Park scored on a beautiful unassisted goal. At the 4:35 mark David Gainey scored again, assisted by Matt Caldwell and Daniel Lee. At the 7:39 of the third period David Gainey completed his "Hat Trick" on a neat unassisted "Tiger Williams' type goal. With 1:16 left in the game Mark Sauter scored assisted by Wyatt Park. In goal for Van Camp was Jonathon Chambers and Bob Cowie was in goal for Re/Max and recorded is "shut out." An Honourable Mention goes to Kenny Ellis on Re/Max for a fine two-way hockey game.
