Port is now matching arsenals against the Red Wings of Oshawa in a 3 out of 5 series. The series stands 1-1 as both teams have pro- ven to each other what to expect in the games to come. Blade's game plan is disciplin- ed hockey as he says the best disciplined team will go a long way. The team has shown Blades they can play smart hockey and than is a good sign for the Insulators. Last Friday evening the table was set for Game No. 1 at the Memorial Arena as Oshawa paid a visit. Folks, they sure paid for it, as Port punished the Red Wings 7-3 in a piping hot match. Larocque got the invitation to play in front of the cage and played great. In the earlier stages, of the game it was the "Larock" show as he stymied, stoned and held back the Red Wings. There was more to come from this kid as he played superbly. Port was first to get on the scoreboard as Laird received a pass from his linemates, Parry and J. Cochrane, before doing the old spin-a-ramma to score. Port now led the game 4-1 and Oshawa got chippy and took some foolish penalties. Port's next goal came after some good grinding in the cor- ners. J. Cochrane fed out front to Laird who was all alone and made no mistake -- Thank you very much. G. Cochrane grabbed an assist as well on the goal. Oshawa then scored on the powerplay to cut the lead to 5-2. In the third period Port had a chance to saturate the net as they had a 5 minute powerplay. McBride took a slash to the head and the player was ejected for his antics. It was Laird who found some skating room as he turned the defence inside-out before slipping it high over the goalies shoulders for the hat trick. A powerplay goal. Then J. Parry scored on the powerplay as he ripped one home. Jeff has been using Huggies Easton stick and the stick's hot! Assisting were 'Bricknell and J. Cochrane as Corey fed Parry out front where he banged 'er home. Oshawa scored the final goal of the game and had the adrenlin go- ing into game No. 2 the next night. The final score of game No. 1 was impressive as Port whipped the Wings 7-3. Beauty. Saturday evening Port travell- ed to North Oshawa Arena to play Game No. 2 of the series. It must have been over-confidence or the underestimating of the Red Wings. Oshawa has proved to Port that it won't be a cake walk and Port will have to work hard every night in order to beat them. Oshawa came out flying on their own turf and scored 2 quick goals putting Port down by 2 ear- ly in the first stanza. Port fought back though as the puck carom- - ed out front from behind the net. Laird jumped on it and beat a goalie who doesn't know where his net is. Assists to Parry and Bricknell. Oshawa then scored to make it 3-1 as the walls were slow- ly caving in on Port's offence. Period one had come to an end as Oshawa led 3-1. Larocque got the call to play between the pipes and saw a fair amount of rubber. Port's defence just wasn't clicking as Larocque saw a three on none near the later stages of the game - they missed the net though, as Larocque must have bettered them. The second frame was on, and 2 minutes in it was Parry who one-timed a snapper from J. Cochrane and Logan on the powerplay. A nice goal on a nice set-up. Then 3 minutes and 24 seconds later it was the rookie McEnaney who turned the red light on when he ripped a slapshot along the ice. Oshawa scored twige more to make the game 5-3. Oshawa had taken game No. 2 despite some great chances near the end in Port's favour. A couple of bad bounces along the boards opened up a wide open net for Port but 'they didn't capture and a pass right on the tape of McBride from the Oshawa goalie almost sent McBride in on a breakaway. This series isn't going to be a cake walk and Port is going to have to work hard grinding in the corners and throwing their weight around. The next home game is tonight at 9:00 p.m., then in Oshawa Wednesday at Children's Arena 8:10 p.m.. Game No. 5 if necessary will be played Friday evening at 9:15 p.m.. Emmerson, IGA tie in Bantam HL Emmerson Insurance 6 I.G.A. 6 : The top two teams faced off last Wednesday night with top spot up for grabs as they were only seperated by a point. Both teams played all out with 'both goaltenders stealing the show at times. Mike Tripp was unbeatable in the first period allowing his team- mates to build up a 2 to nothing lead on goals by Kent Jamieson and Russ Gascoyne. David Holt added a powerplay goal early in the second period to give Emmer- son a 3 goal lead. Midway in the period, Emmer- son were playing short handed when Greg Fitzgerald stole the on page 11 of Real Estate Section puck at centre ice and went in to score, to put I.G.A. on the scoreboard. Adam Johnston stole the puck at his own blue line breaking in alone and deking the goalie to score for Emmerson. Russ Gascoyne got his second of the night as he banged home a pass out from the face-off circle to end the scoring in the second. The third period saw Rob Ashton come up hot in net as 1.G.A. outscored Emmerson by 5 to 1 to come roaring back for a tie.
